New York (CNN) Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series. His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.

He had an 11 year old daughter.

Fuck anyone that kills themselves while they have to be responsible for another human being. Same thing goes for Chester Bennington and Kate Spade.

You're rich, get some help you fucking sped, you can afford it. I had to go to a shrink when I started having daily suicidal thoughts and I'm broke.

Shit, his shows stirred the same awe of the world in my early 20s that steve irwin did when i was tiny.

The best part is that Gordon Ramsay posted that he was "stunned" by the news, and "stunning" is one of his top three phrases to mean "good."

The others are "the most amazing" and "restaurant quality."

I can't even name a favorite color but he was easily my favorite celeb/host/whatever.

Suicide is always selfish, but in an equally selfish manner, he robbed me of his shows. Leaving a kid behind with no wife is just cowardly. Kill yourself when she's a legal adult.

The French let him down with shit breakfast.

How is that even done?

Use something to create a noose (scarf, tie, rope) put it around your neck, tie other end to door knob, get on your knees and lean forward letting your weight/neck take the weight.

It’s honestly more of a slow strangulation which the determination it takes to do it until you lose consciousness is no joke (edit: apparently if done correctly you can lose consciousness very fast within 1 to 2 min, but given what’s happening that seems like an eternity.) Many ppl get drunk beforehand so that probably makes it easier.

It’s a favorite method to use in prison.

Edit: @Dorsia.Reservation Correction, it’s far quicker than I thought due to the cart artery being cut off you lose consciousness a lot quicker than I had assumed so not as determined and slow as I had though. It’s quite effective but still requires determination.

Even have webpages with ver specific instructions and details:

But was it suicide or suicide by shooting themselves in the head with a shotgun 8 times

Wow, him and Kate Spade in a week. Who will be the third celebrity hanging suicide?

Well that's a great thing to find out first thing in the morning :heart-empty:

I hadn't watched his most recent show but I loved No Reservations

He was really good about standing up for his girlfriend when the Weinstein scandal broke (she was a victim). Did they break up or something? I hope someone is around to help her, suicide devastates everyone around it for awhile.

Damn, and he had just been Tweeting about his visit to Hong Kong being "a cinematic dream" and "the professional highlight of his career."

Not what I expected to wake up to. I admit I didn't follow his shows too closely, but what I saw never seemed patronising - which is a bigger deal than it sounds, considering he was an American examining foreign cultures for a television program. Rest in peace, and geez I hope his girlfriend and young daughter get the help and support they need now.

Damn, Bourdain was dating (or married?) to Dario Argento's daughter?

Asia Argento, yeah. She had just recently come forward about being a victim of Harvey Weinstein and Bourdain was a big part of her support system.

I always liked him, not that I really followed him that closely. Based on his history of drug abuse and being on the mostly-functional side of mental issues I can't say as I am surprised though. Sucks what this will do for his significant others though.

I never really watched his shows, but it was clear even to a non-viewer what a talented and interesting guy he was. It's so sad to find out this way someone was dealing with serious personal demons.

F. I hope his poor daughter has the support she needs during this dark time.

Boy, David Cross sure is a lucky guy :\
