That hamster/gerbil house is made of alfalfa and honey, designed to be eaten by small animals.

So keeping it outside like that, it'll survive either until the first rain (when it'll either crumble or mold), or until a rabbit decides it sounds like good eating.

She's just spent $15 on a toy far more disposable and with less play potential than any plastic item imaginable.

I don't get why she doesn't just buy a wooden toy house. It's not like they don't exist. Probably get them from those upmarket toy shops that sell overpriced wooden toys that kids hate.

Or make one. Unless the off-the-grid parents don't know how to do basic carpentry.

No fear--that's not a destroying angel. Looks more like a horse or a field mushroom, although it's impossible to be sure from one photo.

Looks like it. Knowing the state of the hovel they lived in (They got kicked out partly for that reason) it wouldn't surprise me.
