Personally, that's why the meme of "Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself" was such a big immediately after he died for a reason: discrediting people who smelled shit, questioned why it smelled like shit, and questioned why no one else is smelling the shit.
The government can't straight up kill people anymore, not in the way of "he went for a long walk off a short pier and never came back" like they used to.
I think post-Epstein, they realized that cameras and social media are too ubiquitous and they can't hide things that easy. If they take things down, it'll come back and everyone is watching. They also probably realized that Epstein and Co themselves had years and years of digital paper trails, too - which definitely doesn't help them hide stuff.
(Also Epstein rubbed elbows intimately with many big name people. They couldn't just delete him off the face of the earth then say he never existed, like the government does with smaller people.)
Now they use drugs to incite mental illness and then when people who question die in weird/uncommon/impractical ways, the narrative becomes "they were always crazy and on hard drugs! They mysteriously overdosed on purpose. And no, we're not doing a toxicology report and now everything associated with it is sealed for life. Bye"
