A federal agent shot and killed a Minneapolis motorist when she allegedly tried to run over law enforcement officers during an immigration crackdown in the city, authorities said Wednesday.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot the woman in her vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis, Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Video posted online showed the vehicle crashed in a residential neighborhood. The shooting drew throngs of angry protesters to the scene in an area that is the latest target of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

There was a large presence of federal and local officers, yellow police tape and cars that had been in a crash in the residential neighborhood. Gregory Bovino, a senior U.S. Customs and Border Patrol official who has been the face of crackdowns in Los Angeles, Chicago and elsewhere, was among the group.

“We are aware of a shooting involving federal law enforcement near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Please avoid this area,” the city government said on X.

In a scene similar to the Los Angeles and Chicago crackdowns, bystanders didn't hold back in venting their anger, blowing whistles, taunting the federal agents.

“Shame! Shame! Shame!” and “ICE out of Minnesota!” they loudly chanted from behind the police tape, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After the shooting, Mayor Jacob Frey said immigration agents were “causing chaos in our city.”

“We are demanding ICE leave the city and state immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities," Frey said on social media.

The area where the shooting occurred is a modest neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, just a few blocks from some of the oldest immigrant markets in the area and a mile from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020.

“We’ve been trying to live life as fully as possible in light of the fear and anxiety that we feel,” said the Rev. Hierald Osorto, pastor at St. Paul’s-San Pablo Lutheran Church, which has a predominantly Latino congregation in the area.

The Immigration Defense Network, a coalition of groups serving immigrants in Minnesota, held a training session Tuesday night for about 100 people who are willing to hit the streets to monitor the federal enforcement.

“I feel like I'm an ordinary person, and I have the ability do something so I need to do it,” Mary Moran told KMSP-TV.

The Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that it had launched an extraordinary immigration enforcement operation, with 2,000 agents and officers expected in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area for a crackdown tied in part to allegations of fraud involving Somali residents.

After reviewing the incident several times from a number of perspectives and angles, I can conclusively say that yes, her motives for being even in that situation was stupid, but she didn't deserve to get shot dead by some masked dude with an itchy trigger-finger who immediately jumped to lethal force for reasons, trauma, maybe?, I don't know, whatever the cause, it wasn't self-defense.

By what standards? It's completely reasonable to assume that someone who came specifically to confront you whom is also accelerating a car directly at you poses an immediate threat of death or bodily harm, especially to an officer who was dragged by the car of an illegal only a few months prior.

He didn't have an "itchy trigger finger" nor did he jump to lethal force "because reasons". He didn't even pull his gun out until she started hitting the gas while staring directly at him and cars are legally considered deadly weapons, him using his firearm is a completely normal escalation of force.

Even if they did it would amount to a negligible number. Obama did include turnarounds at the border as deportations in his metrics, but that was during a high number of arrivals. Arrivals at the border have plummeted, so there are virtually no turnarounds to add to the number. What they are doing though is including "self deportations" in their number, so it's inflated, just with a different metric tacked on.

Wonder if anyone thought to start conducting Operation: Range Safety Officer and start making indoor ranges in the area aware of the video/awfl-face.

(I say indoor because that's how hollywood people train when they want to girlboss it up and also outdoors places without ubers and limes and foodcarts will be places you don't find these people)

Their gross receipts were $2,974,688 (well above $750,000), so an independent audit should be required I think.

Difference is that self deportation has always been a goal when it comes to removing illegals since removing them legally has always been filled with massive hurdles. Most of how deportations in those earlier years of getting spics out of the country was to "encourage" them to leave. That encouragement was usually violence.

So far as I can tell from the videos, he has the gun in his hand and is drawing the instant before she accelerates, and he was taking video of the front of the car (maybe to document some plate issue) as he was rounding the car to join his partner as the driver was clearly not cooperating.

Redditards (and some people here) have been making a big deal of that, but it is pretty common when encountering some aggressive individual who is resisting to draw. It doesn't indicate an intent to shoot immediately, but to deter. Most people who aren't completely brain-dead will revise whatever deranged plan they had while staring down a Glock.

So he already had a gun in his hand when she started accelerating, but he didn't fire until she actually gunned the car at him. I might be wrong on that but the chronology of relevant events is less than two seconds for the whole interaction.
