tbh I see where duke is coming from and I totally agree. There are so many people that can't seem to treat it as a game where they have the ever present possibility that they may die a horrific death at any moment. They would rather have their self inserts holding hands and riding the escape shuttle into the sunset with zero difficulty. They can't stand seeing their idealised tranny uwu catgirl self get turned into red paste because then they have to come up with mental gymnastics about how they didn't actually die because its legitimately wounding to them to see their escapism thwarted. It's only a matter of time before a server implements an opt-in death system because dying made someone have heckin dysphoria.

If anything it should motivate them to get better at the game enough to consistently survive, but it never does. They’d rather hold a grudge or summon their metafriends than learn to fight and avoid death traps.

So after a few years of inmates running the asylum, there's one thing I don't get. So, of course, the game is real life, your character is you, and we should be striving to build the ideal society to escape to. The prospect of cartoon birds being subjected to Jim Crow (get it) should be enough to enrage you and damage your OOC relationships with real people. Sure, standard cyberpsycho stuff. However, from what I see, they are all fine with the status quo of the station being ran by an immoral megacorporation with private police and death squads? And private corporate police are good people if they approve of cartoon animal sex and use the neopronouns? I would have expected to see some pushes for making a socialist or anarchist station since our characters are supposed to be The Good Guys With All The Right Opinions. I know, of course, people this deep into schizoid fantasy are not deep in material concerns, but 'capitalism bad' should at least be an aesthetic concern for them, no?

SS14 is generally more awkward and less suited towards high-grade hedonistic ERP.
When SPLURT received it’s child birth PR, letting you impregnate a crew member and birth an insta-grown child player, people were playing house or re-breeding their off-spring.

Worse than that, text gets pushed off the screen super quickly so on a large server people get desensitized. Before I reversed the defaults on my server, a lot of players told me they just completely ignored the text chat and sometimes read the speech bubbles above other players. The player base is also not able to read and write very well, and it's not just an ESL thing. What makes it work is that Discord metacomming is in general more tolerated, especially in Discord VOIP. This also enables ERP on the on-the-face non-ERP nothing ever happens servers where the people dragging each other around or staring at each other in maint are just doing it on Discord instead, as has been confirmed to me by an ex-Wizards Den admin.

God I hate this thread because it just highlights everything that is wrong with an otherwise pretty cool game.

CM is ruined too. It used to be a blast. Nerdy and autistic yes but still fun.

But people had to trip over themselves to get offended that someone called someone else "gay" while roleplaying sweaty marines shooting space aliens. Jannie positions full of weirdos.

Now its a boring shithole where anyone interesting has been purged by losers who don't even play the game. They just police "the community" (fucking 24/7) until its gayer than they are.

The most important thing about this: the game server itself literally looks like the shitty modern Goonstation, their whole argument of it being an "older variation of Goonstation" falls apart right there and then and I didn't even have to join and play it. Their ad screenshots give everything away.
