If it was questionable before, it's definitely not now. The mom doesn't even care her brother killed himself because of his depression (and his family abandoning him,) and now she's threatening to do the same thing to Maggie because Maggie's going through the same problems. I think the mom in this comic genuinely doesn't love her kid, 'cause so far nothing I've seen in this thread indicates actual love. Familial obligation and financing, sure, but not care or affection or concern for anything other than appearances/following a path of how life "ought" to be.

I take it all back, this is the best worst comic ever. I don’t even know if this whole situation can be considered realistic or not and a small part of me kinda doesn’t care.

WOW. Okay, now I gotta find and read this stupid webcomic

Edit: I found it and started reading from the beginning, which isn't hard since it's all 4-panels (even if some are wordswordswords.) It's actually not that bad, there's a little bit of college liberal BS but honestly, compared to the shit I've seen on KF this is pretty mild. The halftone coloring reminds me of reading those big comic compilation books as a kid.

So after Maggie's mom throws her out, Maggie walks for hours and gets picked up by some strangers who give her weed and alcohol and try to get her to agree to be a whore for them. Like, straight-up sex traffickers in a van. Maggie jumps out of the moving car and breaks her tooth, wanders through a wooded area for a while and wants to kill herself, then gets woken up in a park by a friendly officer who actually gets through to her about how life is worth living. He takes her home and the bitch mom changes up her story:

I don't understand this genre of cope comics where people just write about their gay self-centered issues. What is the logic here? Do they expect to gain an audience doing this? To make money off of it? Do millenials think having mental and family issues as well as being a bum gives them some sort of social capital?

Turns out I was retarded, it was a park ranger.
This comic has a weird habit of not introducing basic facts about people, like the anxious girl being a they/them, until a million pages in and it's mentioned as if we already knew that. I miss when you didn't have to stalk people's social media pages to learn about their comic or show.

A lot of inexperienced writers are like that, and there are many who never grow out of it unfortunately. They assume that something is self-evident or it just never occurs to them that they haven't properly set something up. I wrote a self-published novel as a teenager. Half of the characters make no sense to me now because I've forgotten their motivations and other elements of the story.

Reminds me of David Willis, in Dumbing of Age he has this moment where it's revealed that Walky and Sal's mother Linda is a racist, and then never did anything to show that for more than a decade, at which point he just had Linda flip out when Sal didn't bring her white boyfriend with her to lunch. And then all the flashbacks we see of them together boil down to Linda yelling at Sal for things like climbing on top of a jungle gym as a little kid, staying out all night at 12, and then robbing a convenience store at 13. So Linda doesn't come across as a racist, Sal just comes across as a troublesome child Linda couldn't get to act right.

I know a couple old COBOL guys and they are all (literal) boomer age and not long for the world. It isn't just the COBOL thing but that they're the only people who know some very specific codebase and there are no replacements.

They're going to have to have those guys train their replacements before they die.

What I find particularly funny about this is that there's not much in the way of furry porn of the wolf character. Oh, sure, you can find some if you go looking, it exists; furries will make porn of goddamn anything. But for as popular as Freefall is amongst my furry acquaintances, I was genuinely surprised at how little porn there is of it.

As I recall from (and I might be getting him confused) any "erotic art" he was aware of, the creator would contact the artist and politely ask them if they would either take it down or at least not make any more. He was creating an "all ages" comic and didn't want Freefall to be associated with furry degeneracy.

I knew a COBOL guy who wanted to retire, and he was brought into an exit interview less than hour after he put in his notice and was asked what it would take him get him to stay.

He told them he wanted the same pay and benefits, but he'd only work part time and would fuck off to florida for no less than 2 months each year. He said they'd have to hire/transfer three people for him to train to take over his role, he would get to approve the applicants, and at least one of them had to be a new college grad, and they had to be in place or on their way there in the next 90 days.

He was told "they'd think about it"; he figured he was offering something so outlandish they'd never accept and went back to packing his desk. They called him in after lunch with the paper work approving all his demands, and asking if there was anyone currently at the company he wanted transferred to the replacement team - the only thing he had compromise on was being available one day a week during his Florida Time, and it took almost 6 months for them to get the new grad to finish his masters.

Now to be clear: this guy had almost 50 years of experience, worked for a Financial services place, lead their Y2K efforts (Remeber Y2K?!), and had saved the company tens of millions by having their COBOL infrastructure in his head so when there was an issue being able to look at logging output and go "Oh I know where the break is" instantly. There is a reason he asked for the moon and got it.
So don't think you can take a COBOL 101 class, walk into your interview, whip out your dick and say "I want $200,000 and it ain't gonna suck itself". the most you'll get 100K and a handie

Indeed? If that's true, I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it, even with him supposedly contacting the porn artists privately. There were people going "lol, fuck you" and drawing porn of Ozzy and Millie after its author made it known he didn't like porn and didn't want people to draw porn of the comics characters. I vaguely recall similar dustups with other webcomic artists not wanting furry porn drawn of their characters, though I can't name the comics in the moment. I'm genuinely surprised some pornsick sperg didn't scream that moralizing prudes were trying to trample his free speech rights to draw degenerate fanart.

Regardless, that's a rather classy way to handle the issue. I have to respect that.
