Yeah, they're also pretty pissed that she's the character who was chosen for the abuse arc. While all the characters on SU have "issues", Lapis is the direct abuse allegory. The fact that she's pretty, feminine, and thin makes them froth at the mouth because if she wasn't so "problematic", she'd be right up their alley. That's why they have to make her fat, "ethnic", and/or ugly so they don't feel bad liking her story arc and character.

If you check out the SU tags on Tumblr, that side of the fandom is literally eating itself alive. Half of them are now "SU critical" and think that makes them smarter than the average fan. Basically they nit pick anything they can (I've heard them call the show racist and transphobic with no sarcasm) and write 5 paragraph long posts stating how much they hate the show...yet still watch every fucking episode and are asking for a reboot. It's wild.

This happens with literally every fandom to exist on Tumblr, though. I've watched it happen in real time with several huge fandoms, even some I was only tangentially aware of. I'm amazed it took this long for Steven Universe to get there, honestly, as toxic as that fanbase has been for the entirety of the show's run.

nothing in the world could have prepared me for that. speedwagon as a morbidly obese midget with deformed feet is something that shouldn't exist. nobody should have even thought about that. but here we are.

This doesn't seem like any sort of SJW shit. Thick eyebrows seem more to like an artistic choice rather than SJW pandering and the hands are probably fucked up because hands are hard to draw. This is reaching. I don't see tumblr nose, I don't see hugely fat and ugly people, I don't see Vitiligo, I don't see racebending (unless green, lavender and hot pink have become skin colours). These seem like pokemon trainers who have been coloured in according to their preferred pokemon set, or just colours the artist liked. There is an attempt at facial variance, the character designs, while not top notch, are cute enough, the only one that I can see any sort of problem with is that last one, and that's only because taken out of context of the others he might seem OMG edgy for the sake of OMG edgy, as opposed to that one guy who might be trying to hard.

It's not perfect, the hands are messed up and greeny's left arm seems to be abnormally long (edit: and asymmetrical), but overall this seems pretty good.

From what I've seen Asian-Americans get eaten alive by SJWs for suggesting to keep Japanese characters as is. A while back Dangan Ronpa fans harassed an actual trans Japanese woman off Tumblr because she said Chihiro isn't trans.
