I'm surprised she's made it this long without being sectioned. She must surround herself with enablers.
I've gathered that this has something to do with her psychobitch mother, whom I believe retains legal power over her.

I think part of it is also Florida.

She's still alive, still a stick and posting on the accounts in the OP regularly. I think she tries to keep herself around the same weight so she can get asspats for being a RECOVERING ANOREXIC without either dying or actually recovering.

I wouldn't say so actually. This is typical of people with anorexia who aren't recovering; they don't believe that having their weight so low is as dangerous as it actually is. Which is part of the reason why it's the most fatal mental disorder.

They can objectively know what their weight is, know the medicine about it, and still have a complete mental block on actually acting rationally based on it. It's really frustrating to deal with people with it, and I've never even dealt with anyone remotely as bad as this.

The pro-ana types are also somewhat different, in that some of them are entirely aware that their actions are killing them and either don't care or actually hope to die.

But is it possible for someone to still be alive and mostly independent after suffering from anorexia for several years and never recovering? I'm admittedly not so familiar with the disorder, but something like that just beggars belief. We already know she has a history of lying and manipulating for attention.

If you're living alone it's quite possible to eat only enough to keep yourself mobile without exceeding 500 calories. Recovery takes so long as well, it's pretty easy to say that you're better or that you've put weight on when you haven't, or you have in fact been puking up everything you've eaten. Perhaps it's different if you have a history of lying and have been caught out, but generally parents and friends will believe what you say, or just accept that you're trying your best. After all, it's not you making the bad decisions, it's the disease!

Edit: can't spell for shit

So, I was hospitalized three times in the past years for several reasons, and there I met a couple of girl with eating disorders.

Those girls are very hardy because they are stubborn people. Even though for some of them, this caused their disorder in the first place, it's why I met a lady who was 20 who looked like 13. They won't let themselves die because they think they are doing something right to their bodies by starving, or puking, or binge eating. It's like they are adjusting their own medications to fit their own standart of healthy.

tl;dr: it's a very hard disease to treat because they are sure they are doing the right thing, and tough to kill because they still take care of their body.

Once I read a book about eating disorders and I sort of related to it but I did not have an eating disorder. Now I am giving away unnecessary information about myself online because it contributes equally to this thread as the previous posts

Well, color me foolish - the jump between being a chronic liar who uses health conditions for attention and faking your conditions is so short that I had neglected to consider that seeking (real or imaginary) approval is a driving force behind this sort of disorder in the first place. It's a bit surprising to hear that some anorexic people do sustain themselves, but it makes this girl make much more sense. Thanks for the insight, powerlevel-y as it may be.

Though, honestly, even an easily fatal illness can't excuse her dragging in countless other people into her fantasy of being the anorexic queen bee. Or this.

All you guys beat me to powerleveling.

A couple related things people have mentioned:

- Folks keep expressing surprise that a person could go so long without being "caught" by someone or having someone help. This is extremely typical.
First, lots of people have a warped view on weight, so you can go for years in that thin-but-pre-skeleton stage and hear only praise. (You can also hide the worst bones under clothes easily.)
Second, even when obviously underweight, humans have this weird thing where they presume the way you look now must be how you looked always. Most people who see her don't see an emergency, they figure "someone must be dealing with it" and say nothing.
Lastly, intervening takes effort and money and nobody is going to do that. Gonna sound bitter here, but people only "care" as long as it doesn't cost them. And as noted by others, you can go for decades eating just barely enough.

- Pro-Ana is misunderstood by most folks who don't see the social stratification. Originally it was teens with diagnosed AN who got together to complain/rebel against (admittedly shitty) treatment in the 90s. The "glorifying anorexia" is actually a symptom, not a viewpoint. Then non-AN girls joined to get crash-diet tips (wanas) who would mimic the pro-ana language to fuel the weightloss. Then there's a subset of people who can't get or don't want recovery for a variety of reasons.

What people also don't realize, due to misunderstanding of the "cause" of eating disorders, is that you can actually develop a real ED after trying to fake one. Sure, lots of people get AN after dieting, but did you know some people get AN after a bout of flu? The key is the sudden cutting of calories that "flips the switch" for people predisposed to AN.

I've also known several folks who intentionally gave themselves AN. Obviously there's lots of people who try this and fail...but they don't all fail.

- The Queen Bee stuff has been noted as a problem in treatment, so while it's not necessarily "forgivable" it is pretty typical. It has to do with the patient's sense that if anyone is better than them, they must be a failure, no inbetweens.

I'm necro bumping this post. Enjoy.

A couple of the lady folk from the lolcow farm are bothered by new rules about no anno cows. Most people here probably would agree, but I don't. I still think Ashley is amazing for shock value alone. Everyone needs to know who Ashley is; she is by far the most fascinating from the /cgl/ fork of lolcows.
