It's not common sense though. Lots of people talk about things with no intention of involving the other. When I talk about my morning commute do I want you to be involved in it? A date? Actually yes, that is one thing that therapy helps with, because not opening up causes loneliness and disconnection.

when i fell off my bicycle the ER put some sort of glue on my broken tooth that protected the tender parts and made it stop hurting until the endodontist could do a root canal. they were able to do that even though they weren't trained dentists. which i appreciated.
apparently walgreens has the same kind of kit. i never knew that. i thought that was something special that ERs had that civvies probably couldn't get.
