Some handle it by isolating themselves and disconnecting with the real world, but often if you just reach out and have honest connections with actual people you will eventually find those that reciprocate. i think that's kind of a glass-half-empty way of looking at it, but, well, what do i know.
Let me start off by saying this is not directed at anyone in particular- well maybe a cat friend I have in Monterey. -I think my point is that I've met some people that make a choice to isolate themselves. I've invited him out to various types events or food or movies with just myself, sometimes me and a work colleague and sometimes for 5-8 ppl meet ups. Each time he turns me down and then later goes online about how he is bored and drunk.
