telling people you're furry isn't really confessing anything, it's opening up all this animal-based lines of communication with them. it's like there's these banks of switches next to your communication with people, and negotiating the fact that you're actually a dog is like taking an entire row of switches and setting them all to "on" to enable those kinds of communication.

i've seen people give the advice that if you go somewhere and you're trying to take a picture of a "thing", like a building or a landmark or something, that you'll fail because it'll be just like everyone else's photograph of that same "thing". but that if you ignore the "things" and pay attention to the "light" and you try to capture what the light is doing on that particuar day, then it goes better.
