my job role now is fundamentally different than any job i've had before. i'm going to have to learn a new set of intuitions and aesthetics about code. things that would have seemed sloppy in a software engineering mentality, might be "the best most expedient get-it-done option" for an SRE.

Well the good news is most places will start you at 15-17/hr
Bad news is taxes and cost of living mean that's basically shit pay that you can't live on. After taxes and California's other bs, that's about 1800/mo take-home if you work the max 32 hrs they let you since otherwise they have to offer benefits

Which is basically rent, utilities, and living on ramen, out here

Here is the problem. If you build a reasonable amount of housing then house prices fall. You have to move slowly and call it luxury so not to be seen as part of the family housing market.

11 percent of people in San Jose are below the poverty line with a median household income of $101,940.
Using averages, employees in San Jose, CA have a longer commute time (29.3 minutes) than the normal US worker (25.3 minutes). Additionally, 3.19% of the workforce in San Jose, CA have "super commutes" in excess of 90 minutes.

Im saying they shoukd have built more normal affordable housing you could buy outright buy or pay off in 10 years. And then if you want more the work to buy more but not forced to work to own normal shit
The problem is that there is a resource glut in the USA. There is far more resources than people who need them. But the resources are all held bu 20% of the population who are afraid to share them because there's no way to know how much of any particular resource you're going to need before you die.

TL

Yes. I did some research and found that that many organizations in the bay area that take donations for poor people can't tell a poor person how to get help. The food goes to a warehouse where it sits waiting for unpaid workers to process it and much of it spoils in the heat. And 80-90% of the money they get either goes to "administrative overhead" or is transferred to another organization and disappears.
I mean it's the same stupid shit that the tea party did to obama
