Way I see it is autism isn't getting more common, diagnosis' for it is and it's being used as a crutch by many people as part of the oppression Olympics. Which is sad because it, at the crux of it, is a disposition to sensitivity to different kinds of learning patterns and information. The weighting of that varies, and ultimately it's a combination of genetic factors and upbringing. I feel like that isn't recognized enough. Two people with the same genetic disposition towards autistic development genetically could turn into two radically different kinds of people based purely on the support and education they receive.
