omg. apparently someone i used to be mildly acquainted with, has now moved to montana and they and their family have BOUGHT an old ghost town, and are making repairs to the buildings along the lines of "arrested decay". and they're going to open it up as a bed-and-breakfast and a place to have weddings and such, soon.
but more than that, they're now living 15 miles away from the nearest town, and they're happier than they were when they were living in the city. with clean air, animals, nature, etc.

In the modern US, there's more hatred originating from the left than the right at the moment. After 9/11, there was a whole ton of hatred from the right and acceptance from the left.
Until we change the whole two-party mentality of the country, which is a much bigger issue, it'll always cycle like that; and people generally vote in favor of their own interests (or what they perceive to be their own interests)

The assembly guy scavenged controller boards from a different product and installed them in the new thing without telling me, and so there were all kinds of weird problems until I realized they all had to be factory reset and reprogrammed for the actual hardware they're in :P
At one point, I had a Siamese cat (still alive), a German Shepherd Dog (sadly departed), and Vodka the rat. Really only had to worry about dog and rat.
But yeah. @That_Yeena just get the one that's cheapest. Last time I checked, the first game was up for $6 online. So if the price has changed, you're maybe better off getting the second one

nfsv4 has encryption, but it's also hard to set up. nfsv3 and iscsi don't have any sort of encryption or authentication as far as i know. i know that if someone has physical access then they have your crown jewels and that's always going to be the case. but i'd kind of like someone to have to work harder than just tcpdump.

i got whatever was cheap. i had a clever master plan back then and it involved mac minis and virtualbox and sort of this weird schedule that i'd made up, where i'd get bottom-of-the-line stuff but commit to a schedule of replacing it periodically with fresh bottom-of-the-line stuff, so that no one component would ever cost more than X dollars, but i'd keep reasonably current with the times.

and then i discovered i really hated all the magic that drobo does behind the scenes that it tries to hide from you. and i also discovered that if you apply a macos update, it is entirely possible that it will break your virtualbox and then all your everything is down, until you can troubleshoot it enough to figure out that it will start working again if you update virtualbox.

drobo actually understands filesystem formats. so when you write X data to sector Y, it's actually trying to understand what the filesystem operation is that your OS is doing, and whether it can infer from the thing that just happened, that it can garbage-collect some other sectors.
