the technology seemed anything but primitive, to me... i mean they could monitor everyone's heart rate from earth, and the monitors weren't like oscilloscopes, but real computer monitors with graphics capability sufficient to draw lines around parts of the screen, and whatever kind of alarm "alarm 1202" was, there was enough of a network so that the fact that that alarm was triggered was visible both to the astronauts and to mission control, and even who "mission control" even was, could switch between different NASA locations.
