To amplify this idea. Goals need to be specific and name things you will DO. "I will lose weight" is a terrible goal and is almost certain to fail, because that's an expression of want (that already existed) rather than a set of specific things you will DO to lose weight. Make a short list of things that take you towards your larger goal, and pick one or two and start doing them, and then work slowly down your list as you achieve them. If you want to learn a new discipline, a perfectly sensible goal to start with is just "I will read 10 pages a day, every day, on this topic. My $0.02
