probably get 1500-2000 for it just in parts. Still a great system. If I take the 2 R9 290x's and slap a 1080 Ti in it'll be just as good as a brand new $2800 system; which is what I'll do for my bun, then we'll just repipe and maybe toss a 1050 or something in his and sell it for 2k or somethin'

I read somewhere that squirrels, despite being among if not the most intelligent of rodents, do not actually remember where they bury their nuts. They have a kind of "squirrel algorithm" and "squirrley sorts of places to bury nuts" that they all use, and they find and eat each other's nuts using the same scheme to uncover them as to bury them. One interesting consequence is that there's a minimum viable number of squirrels in an area or they will die off. :(

Someone shoud code up an algorithm to bury acorns to help the endangered ones along in the UK.

Squirrels can easily be compared to humans. They forget where their car keys or wallet is a lot of the time, and they become skittish and attack you if you try to cuddle them

Seriously I have taken Intro to C++ 1A and 1B and I NEVER learned any of this in either of those classes
We learned about compiling in Java (but I kind of cheated, the teacher explained everything poorly so I had to Google it), but in C++ we just did some Visual Studio command prompt compiling, but my copy didn't work so I just used the Visual Studio IDE when the teacher wasn't looking to compile code

Heh. I'm trying to learn how to use Query_String for assembly rn, so this is more up my alley
I took 1A twice. The first teacher was such a joke (he was the same teacher I had for Java, I took both classes simultaneously) and in both classes, 25 out of 30 dropped out before the midterm. I dropped out when he told me to give up and find a new career just because he got mad when I asked him about pointers.
The second 1A class I took my teacher actually seemed to really like his job and was very positive about everything, explained everything in detail and was constantly motivating the class to do our best and most of us passed the class with a B or a higher. People were constantly coming to me for help because I was one of the faster learner's of the class

Wondering if it's safer to run across a grumpy hive, or an irritable one
19:14
I was pretty grumpy getting my soggy way too much sauce Ike's sandwich and was contemplating leaving a Yelp review helpfully suggesting they hose down their sandwiches first before serving

I guess irritable would be I snap at the cashier

And intelligent would be to remember to ask them not to drown the sandwich in sauce please.

My only real problem with Amazon was resolved pretty well though. I ended up with two coats for the price of one
19:47
Somehow the UPS store shipped it to the wrong store where it sat for weeks, so Amazon sent another one, then many weeks later the original one showed up. It was UPS's fault but Amazon let me keep both so I have a spare permanently in the hatch of my car

Well Albert Camus is one of my favs from that school of thought. Always enjoyed thinking we are all free to act and direct our own lives. Even though sometimes it has some weird implications.
Mɹ
10:15
Majik ɹɐǝq
You're perfectly free to act your way right into homelessness and general rejection from society as a whole.
10:16
But if you want a bed, a roof and to be loved? CONFORM.
Right, which is where it gets weird at a macro level for me. Confirming is absolutely a choice the individual makes, but it has the be weighed against all the other people making existential decisions.
Mɹ
10:19
Majik ɹɐǝq
Conforming isn't a choice it's a behavior modification caused environment.
10:20
A human without influence will not rote conform.
10:21
The homeless person says there was no work for me, therefor I could not pay my rent and was evicted, and because I didn't conform to society's standards no one will take me in; I did not choose to sleep on the sidewalk.
You KNOW this story begins with the phrase "Florida man...."
R
10:31
Reason the LA Quail
People are homeless for a ton of reasons. The issue is that the system of society is not designed to work to help people attain better standards or to improve the societal issues that cause problems by rather to drug the issue to solve the problem.
There are systems in place to get those who fucked up once off the streets, but the question is why did that happen in the first place
10:34
And also, for those that have issues (mental health, drug use, or a general lack of desire to work within the system), our society simply isn’t designed to accommodate them to the same standards that we do for working citizens
C
10:35
Carci
:D
10:36
Can we go back to existentialism? It's a little less depressing. :p
There must be some kind of correlation between social cohesion and a sense of responsibility for "what's outside your door". When community is so fragmented that there really is none, then it's easier to just shrug when you see a stranger suffering, because they're just some individual, not a member of "your" people.
10:37
If you identify, even a little bit, with a homeless person, then you probably want to help, at least somewhat.

There is a lot more social pressure to conform in smaller societies where you will be held accountable to the local citizens than in a city where you can hide in the masses

Woofle A Thylacine
It used to be people who didn't want to address things like homelessness went to a lot of effort to convince themselves that it was "their fault" for being homeless, but it seems like now it's OK to just not even make excuses for the various failures of society that widespread poverty and homelessness actually represents.
Yeah. That’s expecting a lot from people. I lowered my expectations and now I’m happy making connections with people and having sex and being a good person while I wait for a special person to bump into me

Pruitt-Igoe is a good example of why society can't provide for those people.
11:31
As someone in this chat recently put it, giving people with mental, drug and other problems into a place to live doesn't magically fix all their problems.
11:31
If you give all those people places to live, you concentrate all their problems into a small area that ultimately destroys the living space.
11:33
For each person with significant problems that inhibit normal productivity you need 1 to 3 people to constantly manage that one person. So what do you do?
11:33
You can't euthanize them. You can't have 1 to 3 people constantly manage them.
Other governments care for people in their own ethnicity/natives to their country and do not actively exclude others but make it nearly impossible if not altogether impossible for immigrants to get assistance.
That makes sense because their own citizens should be a priority and it's hard for them to get assistance sometimes too. Unless they're fleeing bad conditions, I think immigrants should only be allowed if they can already make due for themselves because otherwise they're causing more of a pit fall to the economy if they need government aid assistance too
