i don't think i can convince you, but just an anecdote... when i was a teenager my mother went on this rant once about how "kids these days" are all worried about their self esteem, and how "in her day" if you wanted to esteem yourself you just kicked a lot of ass and made something of yourself.

... and now that she's older and she's retired and she's mellowed out some, she and i can have more frank discussions about how hard it is to get through life and feel okay about yourself sometimes.

Last year at this time I was going to a hospital every day instead of work. I have talked to others who don't have any motivation to seek treatment like I did and yes it's really frustrating. But I can understand where that mentality comes from, and try to convince them that things can be better.

there was one moment at a VNV Nation concert i went to that felt transcendent to me, in the way that i keep hoping for. someone knew that her mate had intense feelings about one of the songs, so she gathered all the furs who were there together into a big group hug surrounding her mate, for that song, and we just stayed there and all held each other quietly. it was just us, and the music, and the physical closeness.

About a month ago I bought an iPad Pro off of eBay but when I got it, it had a small crack in the glass so I opted to return it.

I packaged it up and gave it to the shipping department at work to be shipped off.

Well, two weeks later the seller still had not received the package so I checked the tracking number and it said "shipping exception - an exception has occurred and the postal service is working to resolve the issue now."

So I called the USPS customer service line and they basically just read to me what I had just read off of the website and told me there was nothing I could do; that I should just wait.

So I kept waiting and over the next few weeks the package kept going in between "recieved at distribution point" and "package handling exception.

I called about five times and every time i had to wait on hold for over an hour, and each time they told me the same thing.... just wait, there's nothing they can do.

So eventually I just drove to the San Jose USPS distribution center, walked in the back door which was standing open, and wandered around until I found a postal service employee.
