<2021-07-27T23:17:48.000Z> qwerty: hey bro, i am about to start my journey to learn japanese (practically from the bottom) so i was wondering if you had resources you could share with me. i think i've seen you share your progress with a website that helps with memorizing kanji
<2021-07-27T23:17:55.000Z> qwerty: any help will be appreciated
<2021-07-28T03:35:05.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: The website I use is Wanikani. It's free for the first three levels and has a subscription cost after that, but I've found it to be a lot better for me than anki since it actually requires the user to input the words. It's also pretty good for learning general vocabulary as well since there's always several words related to most of the kanji.
<2021-07-28T03:35:39.000Z> qwerty: thanks, bro! your help is greatly appreciated!
<2021-07-28T03:36:20.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: The thing to keep in mind with wanikani is that it doesn't follow the JLPT (aka the standardised N5-N1 system) but rather goes with the philosophy of starting from simpler kanji towards more complicated ones
<2021-07-28T03:37:48.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: Then there's the textbooks that you can find from the /jp/'s /djt/ OP but for the love of niggy do not make the mistake of reading the threads
<2021-07-28T03:38:10.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: most discussion about learning japanese will not help you at all
<2021-07-28T03:39:07.000Z> qwerty: i have a couple of japanese textbooks already when i studied in japan, i'll check if they're the ones they recommend
<2021-07-28T03:39:36.000Z> qwerty: but thanks a ton! it means a lot :)
<2021-07-28T03:39:47.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: https://animelon.com/ seems pretty great for learning too, it has subtitles in both english and japanese and it's really customizable to your needs
<2021-07-28T03:40:06.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: but I haven't used it myself other than checking it out so I can't say, seems popular though
<2021-07-28T03:41:00.000Z> qwerty: i'll give it a shot and see if it's worthy my time. Thanks for helping me :D
<2021-07-28T03:41:20.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: jisho.org and google translate should be in your taskbar, make it a habit to look up words. Don't worry about memorizing them though.
<2021-07-28T03:41:51.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: you can also make a custom anki deck for any words you want to learn that are not on your wanikani list yet
<2021-07-28T03:42:09.000Z> qwerty: anki are flashcards right?
<2021-07-28T03:43:05.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: But yeah, no worries! I'm mostly just sharing my method, and the key is to keep up with the reps and you'll do fine. Also jisho has the different inflections listed too, check those out.
<2021-07-28T03:43:17.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: yeah, literally meaning memorisation
<2021-07-28T03:43:27.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: https://jisho.org/search/anki
<2021-07-28T03:43:39.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: imagine my shock when I found out
<2021-07-28T03:44:42.000Z> qwerty: lol. thanks, man! you've been a great help to me!
<2021-07-28T03:49:51.000Z> moth_ball@shitposter.club: No problem, I'm happy to help! Feel free to message me anytime. I'll spam more links later if there's something I missed.
<2021-07-28T03:50:11.000Z> qwerty: Will do! :D
