<2022-01-22T00:25:48.000Z> nozaki: Hey Paul sorry to DM you if you're not comfortable with it. feel free to just ignore this. I have a friend who captains a charter fishing boat in AK. It's a lot more bearable than the commercial ones because you don't have to work 16 hour days. If you want I can give him a call. He's always looking for help over the summer, if that's what you're looking for.
<2022-01-22T00:26:54.000Z> paultown: Thanks for the dm! I would love that if you want to do that, thank you :)
<2022-01-22T00:27:30.000Z> nozaki: Yeah np, are you looking for something over the summer?
<2022-01-22T00:27:37.000Z> nozaki: or long term?
<2022-01-22T00:28:30.000Z> nozaki: AK is mostly summer. I don't know anyone in other areas.
<2022-01-22T00:28:50.000Z> paultown: Yeah I'd be interested in doing it for a summer
<2022-01-22T00:29:13.000Z> nozaki: Cool just sent him a text.
<2022-01-22T00:29:33.000Z> paultown: Awesome! Thanks for reaching out :)
<2022-01-22T00:34:04.000Z> nozaki: No problem, I think fishing is a good industry for people like us. A lot of downtime in the winter for other projects, and everyone is insane.
<2022-01-22T01:04:05.000Z> paultown: Yeah I don't know too much about it or have experience in it so I can't say much, I'm just interested in it because it seems like something that is real and also cool to learn
<2022-01-22T01:04:57.000Z> nozaki: tbh if you just go to alaska you can probably get a job
<2022-01-22T01:05:24.000Z> nozaki: but it would probably be a shitty commercial one
<2022-01-22T01:05:51.000Z> paultown: that is true but because I've had so many misadventures and mishaps I'm kind of tired of doing things without having them being lined up
<2022-01-22T01:07:39.000Z> nozaki: well if you've never done it this way then it would probably be interesting
<2022-01-22T01:08:19.000Z> nozaki: it's a different world up there, feels more like another country with it's own culture
<2022-01-22T01:12:18.000Z> paultown: that's another reason why it's appealing to me, I really want to see alaska and eventually move out there if I like it. NY is not really long for the world in terms of liveability imo
<2022-01-22T01:21:06.000Z> nozaki: It's great, sometimes I think about abandoning everything and moving there. You might drive on a road no one has been on in weeks. Ice everywhere. Animals like moose and bears are just hanging out everywhere. Things like water and power are not guaranteed. It's the edge of civilization. It rocks.
<2022-01-22T02:07:06.000Z> paultown: Yeah it seems beautiful. I also like how it gets dark for a crazy amount of time
<2022-01-24T00:21:00.000Z> paultown: Any response from your friend?
<2022-01-24T01:02:36.000Z> nozaki: No sorry, he hasn't replied yet. I just texted him again.
<2022-01-24T01:02:52.000Z> nozaki: He's usually much faster at responding.
<2022-01-24T19:07:52.000Z> paultown: ah no worries, just keep me updated!
<2022-01-24T20:36:40.000Z> nozaki: I don't know what's going on with him. Sorry Paul. I sent a text to someone else, they're in Kodiak which is pretty remote. Never been there myself.
<2022-01-24T20:47:14.000Z> nozaki: Ok got the rundown from my housewife friend up there. She says that none of the charter boats (my recommendation) are hiring right now, and usually hire right off the docks around June. It's mostly cash work and nice because you go back to land everyday. I don't know when the season starts, but I think it would be better to go beforehand to get settled and make friends with some of the captains.
<2022-01-24T20:48:03.000Z> nozaki: If you want to do commercial, I think it's a little more streamlined, but it's brutal work and I advise against it. I can ask her about it though.
<2022-01-24T23:06:35.000Z> paultown: Ah alright, I can't really do stuff without stuff lined up like I said, but thanks for trying.
<2022-01-24T23:12:38.000Z> nozaki: Well my first friend might come through for me. If he does I'll update you.
<2022-01-24T23:13:13.000Z> paultown: True, thank you for trying though, even if that doesn't work out. I really appreciate it :)
<2022-01-24T23:13:44.000Z> nozaki: You're welcome, I wish you luck, hope AK works out.
<2022-01-24T23:28:40.000Z> paultown: Thank you, I hope it works out as
<2022-01-24T23:28:43.000Z> paultown: well
