<2021-06-12T18:04:42.000Z> hard_no: Hey, sorry to bug you, but trying to use the fedi express site, and the "let's get started" button just redirects right back to the main page. Am I missing something here? Sorry if I'm a complete moron.
<2021-06-12T18:06:07.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: it's supposed to jump down to the provider login options, which are on the main page, yes
<2021-06-12T18:07:12.000Z> hard_no: Okay. So everything else is then done through the provider?
<2021-06-12T18:09:53.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: well, you log in with the provider, and then it will redirect you back to fediverse.express. depending on which provider you decide to use, you might have to provide certain info instead. which provider are you planning to use?
<2021-06-12T18:12:36.000Z> hard_no: vultr
<2021-06-12T18:16:12.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: so for vultr you'll click the "vultr" button or go here: https://fediverse.express/login/vultr . then go to https://my.vultr.com/settings/#settingsapi in a new tab, click "allow all ipv4" near the bottom, then copy the thing under "Personal Access Token" (it'll look like BBH7...2SPAFMQQ) and paste it into the fediverse.express tab next to "Vultr API key". then you should be able to continue with installation
<2021-06-12T18:16:49.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: make sense?.
<2021-06-12T18:17:13.000Z> hard_no: Yes.
<2021-06-12T18:18:53.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: cool, feel free to reach out if you have any other problems :)
<2021-06-12T18:21:10.000Z> hard_no: Thanks!
<2021-06-13T19:02:53.000Z> hard_no: Sorry to keep bugging you, but I'm still having issues with the domain bit. Here are some screenshots of the DNS set up and the fediexpress message. Where am I going wrong?

<2021-06-13T21:27:02.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: if you just registered that domain, give it an hour or so because sometimes new domains take a moment to propagate
<2021-06-14T14:20:43.000Z> hard_no: Hi again, it's been over 24 hours since registration and still the same error message. Any ideas?
<2021-06-14T14:49:05.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: Ah, I see the issue. Host needs to be "@" on both of those
<2021-06-14T14:49:45.000Z> hard_no: @our domain name?
<2021-06-14T14:50:22.000Z> hard_no: or just @
<2021-06-14T14:51:25.000Z> hard_no: That's it! Thank you so much!!
<2021-06-14T14:51:30.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: needs to be changed so it looks like that https://pl.gamers.exposed/media/e7037774d5b39ce1df3e397a799c46ae83c21522d6b3814931972fed9c6b8eeb.png
<2021-06-14T14:51:34.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: yes, just @, haha
<2021-06-14T14:51:40.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: np
<2021-06-14T14:54:24.000Z> hard_no: Annnnnd on the very next step, the "install software" kicks me back to "verify your domain". Am I just impatient here? lol
<2021-06-14T14:56:20.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: remove the AAAA record and wait a few minutes, that looks like a bug on my end
<2021-06-14T14:56:30.000Z> hard_no: okay
<2021-06-14T15:03:49.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: looks like it's working now
<2021-06-14T15:03:51.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: sorry for all of the issues
<2021-06-14T15:04:07.000Z> hard_no: No problem! Thank you for all your help!!
<2021-06-14T21:04:27.000Z> hard_no: Me again! Do you know if it's possible to run two full admin accounts on Misskey? And if so, how does one go about making that happen?
<2021-06-14T21:44:15.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: i don't know what "full admin" means, but you can give someone mod priviliges from instance (left side) -> users
<2021-06-14T22:09:41.000Z> hard_no: Yeah, I think we figured out the issue on that one, sorry.
<2021-06-14T22:10:05.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: was what I said different than what you did?
<2021-06-14T22:10:44.000Z> hard_no: re: federating, do I understand the concept with relays that I need to basically contact the admin for the other instances? Add the url for their inbox to my relay list?
<2021-06-14T22:14:25.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: i always recommend against using relays as it's usually better to follow users that you want to see on your TWKN. but if you're really sure that you to use relays anyway, most pleroma instances have their instance relay enabled at https://instance.tld/relay. poa.st also operates a relay at https://relay.fedi.agency/actor.
<2021-06-14T22:17:57.000Z> hard_no: Great. Thanks so much. Mostly I think we want the option. You have been spectacular help. I cannot than you enough!
<2021-06-22T15:37:04.000Z> hard_no: So, I have kind of an odd issue here. Our cloud service is currently holding our instance hostage. They changes the ToS and are now requiring a ridiculous level of identity confirmation. They've completely breached the contract, and they won't cancel the service. Since we went thru the fedi servers, how much access do you have to our data? As in, is it possible for you to pull our stuff and put us on a different cloud if we so choose? Or are we just stuck? This is Vultr, btw, that's doing this.
<2021-06-22T16:48:00.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: Sorry, I don't hold on to anyone's info. If you still have your deployment receipt and can access the server via SSH, you can pull your files off that way.
<2021-06-22T16:48:10.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: (That's how I would have to do it, anyway)
<2021-06-22T16:48:37.000Z> hard_no: okay. thanks
<2021-06-23T21:25:39.000Z> hard_no: Quick question: Is it possible to move our instance from one cloud server to another if we can un-hostage it?
<2021-06-23T21:26:03.000Z> hard_no: As in, move all our current data.
<2021-06-23T21:28:54.000Z> hard_no: To a different host company
<2021-06-23T21:29:51.000Z> hard_no: Which sounds stupid, now that I write it, of course it is. Right? So what steps do I need to take to make that happen? Sorry for being such an idiot. It's been a long day.
<2021-06-24T00:19:21.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: 0. DO NOT CHANGE ANY DNS RECORDS, IF YOU DO THIS WILL BREAK FEDERATION LATER1. log in via SSH (ssh root@niggers.auction -i ~/Downloads/id_rsa.txt)2. export postgres database (sudo -Hu postgres pg_dump misskey > /tmp/misskey.psql)3. archive uploads (tar czf files.tgz /opt/misskey/files)4. install misskey on new server (via fediverse.express or otherwise, if you are using fediverse.express with a host not on the list there are instructions for doing that on-site). DO NOT CREATE A LOGIN AFTER INSTALLING5. copy the files to the new server (scp root@new-server.tld /tmp/misskey.psql files.tgz /home/root)6. stop misskey (sudo systemctl stop misskey)7. import the database (sudo -Hu postgres psql misskey < misskey.psql)
<2021-06-24T00:20:31.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: 8. unarchive the uploads (cd / && tar xzvf /home/root/files.tgz && chown -R misskey:misskey /opt/misskey/files)9. start misskey (sudo systemctl start misskey)10. NOW you can change DNS and everything back
<2021-06-24T00:21:01.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: (i didn't test this but that's how it should work)
<2021-06-24T00:24:06.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: Actually I forgot that you have to change DNS to get the certificate, ignore comments about changing DNS, just do so normally when you're installing
<2021-06-24T21:24:50.000Z> hard_no: Back again. Someday these questions will stop, I swear. Everything I see re: running misskey says it should NOT be run as a root user? Does FediExp set it up as root? Or...
<2021-06-25T01:31:19.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: systemctl should be running the misskey service as the misskey user
<2021-07-04T16:51:28.000Z> hard_no: Quick question: I need to upgrade my instance, but my receipt got saved as a pdf and not a webpage after the key was downloaded. Am I screwed here? Still not sure how that happened...
<2021-07-04T19:00:29.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: You're not. I'm AFK right now but once I get back to my computer I'll let you know how to fix that
<2021-07-04T19:00:52.000Z> hard_no: Awesome. Thanks!
<2021-07-05T02:49:57.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: paste the following into a text file, and replace the "private key" section with your actual private key:<html>	<body> <span id="domain">ns.auction</span> <span id="ipv4">143.198.230.176</span> <span id="software">misskey</span> <span id="privateKey">-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----paste your private key here-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----</span>	</body></html>then save it as whatever upload it to fediverse.express, it should work
<2021-07-05T03:24:01.000Z> hard_no: Thank you so much!!
<2021-07-05T06:10:14.000Z> hard_no: So this is what I tried to upload, "couldn't open document". https://img.poast.org/8492e1dd453e8818618c3d7e2f6c3606c8a08de440e07559acea7456547732b5.html
<2021-07-05T06:13:04.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: i can't see that file, but the system is saying it can't find the IP address
<2021-07-05T06:13:38.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: make sure that line reads exactly <span id="ipv4">143.198.230.176</span>
<2021-07-05T06:13:59.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: if you're still having trouble, email the file to me (miss@pasture.moe or fediverseexpress@protonmail.com)
<2021-07-05T06:29:57.000Z> hard_no: Thanks
<2021-07-05T06:42:01.000Z> hard_no: Email sent. The line was correct
<2021-07-07T14:18:44.000Z> hard_no: More dumb questions... stg, I'm not a moron, but for whatever reason, I cannot seem to login to the console? Can you walk me through this eli5? I just need to make some keys so I can enable service workers and bot protection. It's driving me absolutely bonkers that this is eluding me. I've dealt with terminal stuff on my mac for years, built html5/css web stuff, but it's like... good grief. Anyway, thanks for all your help.
<2021-07-07T17:01:35.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: what's the error that you get?
<2021-07-07T17:01:51.000Z> hard_no: login incorrect
<2021-07-07T17:02:04.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: you're logging in as root and are using the public key, yes?
<2021-07-07T17:02:10.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: sorry, not public key, private key
<2021-07-07T17:02:16.000Z> hard_no: yes
<2021-07-07T17:02:51.000Z> hard_no: using the login line from the receipt, and pasting the key from the txt download
<2021-07-07T17:04:26.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: your key is working for me, you're on a Mac?
<2021-07-07T17:04:38.000Z> hard_no: I am
<2021-07-07T17:05:37.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: did you chmod 600 your key file
<2021-07-07T17:05:56.000Z> hard_no: I don't believe so
<2021-07-07T17:06:20.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: try that, then do ssh -i
<2021-07-07T17:19:05.000Z> hard_no: That worked. Thank you!!
<2021-07-14T22:02:41.000Z> hard_no: We're trying to set up the captcha on the instance, and it doesn't like my public key. I'm using the one in /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub. And I wrong that I need to paste this key and the private ssh key in when the function I'm trying to access is asking for a "site key" and a "secret key"?
<2021-07-14T22:08:30.000Z> hard_no: Also tried with the public key string found with cat ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
<2021-07-14T22:15:34.000Z> hard_no: It's always something so stupid. What stupid thing am I missing this time? Thanks.
<2021-07-14T22:50:23.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: are you talking about this?
<2021-07-14T22:50:25.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed attached file https://pl.gamers.exposed/media/0e9945be96dc4e727551578200e76c9fb4ec9bbe744151fe7b6f789740cedbc9.png
<2021-07-14T22:50:47.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: if so, you go to reCAPTCHA or hCaptcha's web site to get those
<2021-07-14T22:50:58.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: for reCAPTCHA it's here: https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/
<2021-07-14T22:51:01.000Z> hard_no: got it. Thanks.
<2022-02-28T04:25:00.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: It says here that it's running migrations. I don't have any more detail than that, but if you have a lot of posts and haven't updated in a long time, it taking a while for that to complete wouldn't be too out of the ordinary. If you look at your server's console and it's pegged to 100% CPU you may need to upgrade your system's plan.
<2022-02-28T04:44:59.000Z> hard_no: Thanks. I really appreciate the help.
<2022-02-28T13:04:31.000Z> hard_no: I think I'll have to try and do manual updates through the console maybe - I tried to update again and let it run for about 6 hours. It never finished. It's not that big of a deal, I think we're only running the instance for another few months anyway.
