<2023-02-15T07:02:02.000Z> DE: Just pinging you to add to your anxiety and thank you for this place. Seriously been a great distraction from life bs. Keep up the good work.
<2023-02-15T07:25:40.000Z> graf: thanks for being here friend
<2023-03-16T05:58:18.000Z> DE: Is there an easy way to delete my old posts? Just thought it would be nice to clear some space from the server by deleting old comments. Know it wouldn't make a huge difference but still.
<2023-03-16T06:03:14.000Z> graf: no there isnt without using a command line tool to do it. people ask for this without realizing the ramifications of doing it. so ill break it down for youwhen you delete a poast, a delete request is generated for every instance we federate and sent along to all of them -- 20k instances poast is aware of currentlywhen you wipe your account, say 1000 posts that is generating 20,000,000 delete requests putting a massive strain on our hardware for several hours and untold strain on every instance that poast has federated to. this is why we don't have the ability to wipe an account by the end user and why we advocate for not posting something you dont want online on poast -- even if you delete it some servers like FSE do not honor delete requests and thus your account is still intact on those instances. if you dont care about the impact this has on us, commandline tools exist:pypi.org/project/fedinesia/2.4.1/
<2023-03-16T06:36:38.000Z> DE: Oh this wasn't me wanting to erase my posts it was me remembering you talking about how much storage there is on here and wanting to help cut down storage useage.
<2023-03-16T06:37:41.000Z> DE: I stand by much of what ive said over the months, and while some opinions have changed I remain me. I just don't want you having to pay for older posts of mine.
<2023-03-16T06:42:50.000Z> graf: old posts take up less space than a couple mp3s. our database server is 4x 2TB NVMe in a RAID-10 (so 4TB) we're fine for a long, long wild on database
