<2022-11-02T22:14:56.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: Apparently we got defedded and you couldn't see anything I said for a while, how you been Tone
<2022-11-02T22:18:02.000Z> WolfeTone: been better, bummed about the american IP blacklisting, I don't wanna get a VPN lol
<2022-11-02T22:18:11.000Z> WolfeTone: yourself?
<2022-11-02T22:18:34.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: rip I can't imagine life without a vpn that turns my connection off if it's not working
<2022-11-02T22:19:04.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: Life's good overall, with the exception of the farms things. Short term good but man I'm getting blackpilled
<2022-11-02T22:19:44.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: I wanted to ask if you had a recommendation for a place to start if I'm curious on religious things
<2022-11-02T22:21:32.000Z> WolfeTone: unironically, try this audiobook, this is like a root that I followed up towards genuine religious thought, spend my entire childhood in various churches both protestant and catholic, as well as studying judaism and it never clicked until I studied zen youtube.com/watch?v=UYcyV4UsgK0
<2022-11-02T22:22:13.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: Thanks that actually sounds really interesting
<2022-11-02T22:22:30.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: When did you get into it, raised religious or find it on your own?
<2022-11-02T22:37:58.000Z> WolfeTone: raised religious, never stopped loving, never had an athiest phase, but I would have considered myself agnostic up until I started to feel it, and frankly, I don't remember when my satori happened, I think it might have been a rolling thing that took a long time to complete, or was a subtle series of shifts, or is still going on to this day.
<2022-11-02T22:38:43.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: I'm happy for you man, thanks for sharing. It sounds like a pretty worthwhile journey
<2022-11-02T22:40:11.000Z> WolfeTone: life's a pretty worthwhile journey, I think walt whitman's leave of grass was also an excellent soulful work
<2022-11-02T22:40:48.000Z> WolfeTone: youtube.com/watch?v=MgLwWYZuFGU
<2022-11-02T22:42:49.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: Wow, 17 hours. Whitman's earlier work was very different. I really only know his Civil War phase, too much of a history wonk.
<2022-11-02T22:43:15.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: I will listen to this. I think he stopped writing poetry after the war.
<2022-11-02T22:49:44.000Z> WolfeTone: iirc he continued to write up until his death, he continued to love life up until his death, some of his last written words were romanticizing the flies buzzing around his house, as he had gotten quite smelly in his last days. But, it's 100% certain that his poetry had a dramatic tone shift after the civil war and again after Lincoln's death, the trauma and consecrating event switched him into a different arc in his life, more religious
<2022-11-02T23:51:31.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: Really interesting to see the arcs in these people's lives and kind of compare them to your own, if you're humble about it you can learn a lot I think
<2022-11-03T01:05:18.000Z> WolfeTone: absolutely, that's a common theme from psychologists like Jung and Peterson to kiwi farms and it's cows
<2022-11-03T01:06:54.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: At least we can sneed through VPNs :( cost thing, or just not worth the hassle for you?
<2022-11-03T01:07:10.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: Following lolcows is getting hard
<2022-11-03T01:08:07.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: But you're right, observing people to learn from them is a pretty obvious take to have lmao
<2022-11-03T01:08:22.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: The zen thing is actually pretty wild. I'm enjoying his take on language
<2022-11-03T01:13:23.000Z> WolfeTone: the knowledge found in the places rarely looked is just that which becomes most valuable, generationally
<2022-11-03T01:15:21.000Z> RamRanch@chudbuds.lol: That's a really insightful take, actually, and it connects to something I've always felt important. The knowledge we have lost is so important. Recovering an old scroll or something always makes me happy. The things people tried to hide and destroy are important. KF is like a little, mostly insignificant version of that
