<2022-06-15T04:36:17.000Z> RoderickSpode: Super, Myles recommended that I reach out to you for resources/recommendations for helping a friend through alcohol addiction recovery. I don't know if he shared this with you or not, but the friend in question is Robert Edwardly.
<2022-06-15T04:37:01.000Z> RoderickSpode: I'm the friend who gave him a place to live and a vehicle until he could get in his feet and find his own.
<2022-06-15T04:37:51.000Z> RoderickSpode: Hopefully I'll be able to pick him up tomorrow from the jail, though I don't know yet.
<2022-06-15T14:17:05.000Z> SuperLutheran: First of all,
<2022-06-15T14:17:51.000Z> SuperLutheran: The Lord bless you and reward you for being not only generous, but also patient in showing your friend this kind of love. The fact that you were willing to go so far to help Robert is a great work before God.
<2022-06-15T14:18:33.000Z> SuperLutheran: But I do wish you hadn't told me that it was Robert that was struggling with this. When it comes to personal battles a friend might be having, I often give better advice when I don't know who it is.
<2022-06-15T14:19:06.000Z> SuperLutheran: As for recovering from alcohol addiction, I've heard good things about alcoholics anonymous.
<2022-06-15T14:20:07.000Z> SuperLutheran: To be frank, there is hardly such thing as just "quitting" a struggle with a particular sin, as we all have our thorns in the flesh and addictive personalities are almost never "quitters" in any real sense.
<2022-06-15T14:20:37.000Z> SuperLutheran: He's got to get involved with a group that he regularly goes to, gets support from, and has accountability to.
<2022-06-15T14:23:05.000Z> SuperLutheran: alcoholrehabguide.org/
<2022-06-15T14:23:24.000Z> SuperLutheran: Apparently, these guys have worked with the LCMS before, so if AA isn't in the cards, that might work.
<2022-06-15T15:57:36.000Z> RoderickSpode: Thank you. And I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news about a friend. He is being released today pending blowing under half the legal limit.
<2022-06-15T15:58:46.000Z> RoderickSpode: I was a little discouraged by the resources I found from AA last night and the secular approach which forbids addressing anything as sin and frames addiction as mere chemical imbalances which are a forever identity for the "addict"
<2022-06-15T16:00:03.000Z> RoderickSpode: My assistant pastor did recommend Jeff Durbin of apologia miniseries
<2022-06-15T16:01:26.000Z> RoderickSpode: Ministries as being a good source as he's dealt with this and essentially his church started with almost entirely recovering addicts. I was really discouraged last night at being unable to find many Christian resources, but I really appreciate the one you shared with me.
