<2023-01-04T22:52:11.000Z> BarbatusRex: Hey Super. Had a problem I wanted your input on. Feel free to ignore if you’re busy. I listened to your VLL 36 about house churches. My family and I have been bouncing around churches for about two years since my last church went pozzed. (You guys answered a letter from me on the subject, I talked to my pastor at the time about his nonsense). We’re in a holding pattern attending a very small church where the median age is 60-75 depending on if grandkids are there.
<2023-01-04T22:53:55.000Z> BarbatusRex: I have considered starting a house church with another family, but I am concerned that I’m not qualified to do so. I’m a layperson, and although I have a minor in biblical studies I don’t have any credentials and am not ordained.
<2023-01-04T22:55:03.000Z> BarbatusRex: We just feel like we’re missing out on connecting with other families and forming real Christian relationships and community. Thanks for listening, brother.
<2023-01-05T22:11:59.000Z> SuperLutheran: Hey there!
<2023-01-05T22:12:25.000Z> SuperLutheran: So tomorrow I should be announcing the first liturgical service setting for the Catacomb Synod and all house churches associated with the VLP
<2023-01-05T22:12:58.000Z> SuperLutheran: When thinking about starting a house church, you'll be looking at conducting liturgy, and if a deacon then also consecrating the elements in Communion.
<2023-01-05T22:13:45.000Z> SuperLutheran: As a guy with a minor in Biblical studies, that already gives you a massive leg up from most deacons, but when thinking about the Sacrament and normal diaconate activities, here are the qualifications for deacons:
<2023-01-05T22:14:27.000Z> SuperLutheran: 1 Timothy 3:
<2023-01-05T22:14:42.000Z> SuperLutheran: 8 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. 9 They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. 11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 13 For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
<2023-01-05T22:16:00.000Z> SuperLutheran: IF you don't feel as though you qualify, that's OK - you can still be a lay leader who runs the house church, you'd just have to arrange for the people to have the Sacrament as consecrated by a valid pastor or deacon, although someone you know might qualify as well.
<2023-01-05T22:16:48.000Z> SuperLutheran: I think it would be worth looking into, frankly - and not just because I'm the guy supplying these house churches lol. You mentioned having more community with people you and your family can relate to. This would be a great opportunity to do that.
<2023-01-05T22:17:45.000Z> SuperLutheran: But that said, I'm going to be coming out with more recordings and guides for people starting their own. Sorry for the wait, but it's a brick-by-brick, week-by-week sort of thing at the moment given my crazy work schedule.
<2023-01-05T23:30:01.000Z> BarbatusRex: No worries, brother. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I know you’re a busy man. Being involved with your family is a full-time job by itself. I really appreciate the help.
<2023-02-21T14:13:04.000Z> BarbatusRex: Hey Super. I'm having to do a team building thing where we go watch the Jesus Movement movie that's coming out. The Jesus movement reeks of hippie bullcrap. Was the Jesus movement just a communist psyop?
<2023-02-21T14:13:33.000Z> BarbatusRex: I don't want to support it if it's just another propaganda piece.
<2023-02-21T16:04:24.000Z> SuperLutheran: As far as I'm aware, the "Jesus Movement" wasn't an op so much as it was just hippies gravitating toward our Lord Jesus and doing something about it.
<2023-02-21T16:05:31.000Z> SuperLutheran: The effects can be seen even today, with the Calvary Chapel denomination coming out of Baptist pastors reaching out to hippies, the contemporary Christian music scene (the Jesus movement pretty much invented that), and all "Vineyard" churches.
<2023-02-21T23:17:18.000Z> BarbatusRex: Gotcha. Thanks for the info.
