<2023-02-07T23:57:39.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Holy shit man I’ve been listening to RFI for so long while not effin w poast at all for past year or 2 and just now realizing Jiub=RFI.
<2023-02-08T05:31:43.000Z> Jiub: Yep it's me
<2023-02-08T23:02:54.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Thoroughly enjoy RFI so thanks for being based I guess. If you’re so inclined sometime you should check this out
<2023-02-08T23:03:04.000Z> SultanOfSloth: youtu.be/flXX4zjL40Y
<2023-02-08T23:04:22.000Z> SultanOfSloth: they had to change their name since the other cataclysm got signed first. They renamed to assisting sorrow later. Have played with some of these dudes. Good shit.
<2023-02-08T23:53:39.000Z> Jiub: oh wait, I think I've heard of these guys when I was a kid looking for metal from cincinnati
<2023-02-08T23:54:16.000Z> Jiub: weren't a couple of them in abominant too?
<2023-02-08T23:54:43.000Z> Jiub: ken always gets such good-sounding tape rips, it's wild
<2023-02-08T23:57:22.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Just Jim - Jim Higgins was drummer in Cataclysm/Assisting Sorrow among other bands. Abominant is retired now. I played with him in Gaebalein on Blood Now Flows album (youtu.be/xKtq_-eyYzE). After Death is my song, I just did lead/accents on rest of the album.
<2023-02-08T23:59:21.000Z> Jiub: I like the style, melodic but not silly
<2023-02-08T23:59:48.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Dude did bodybuilding and was a volunteer firefighter while being a death metal drummer. He did fanzines and shit in the 90s.
<2023-02-09T00:00:40.000Z> SultanOfSloth: The other guitar player from gaebalein moved to SC years ago, was in a band called medical aftermath. Idk what he’s doing now.
<2023-02-09T00:01:25.000Z> SultanOfSloth: But yeah after death I wrote when I was 17, recorded a few years later. I’ve been dormant for a spell.
<2023-02-09T00:06:50.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Vocalist from Gaebalein passed away in like 08 RIP. Car accident. If I’m being honest he drove like an unhinged asshole even if other dude was drunk.
<2023-02-09T00:22:03.000Z> Jiub: ah geez
<2023-02-09T00:22:15.000Z> Jiub: I've been getting back into recording stuff too
<2023-02-09T00:25:00.000Z> SultanOfSloth: I’d be happy to hear literally any of it pal. I got me a 200$ Jackson 7 string it’s fun af.
<2023-02-10T06:17:48.000Z> SultanOfSloth: I was just made aware of Darkthrone’s latest release. I dig it. That album cover is funny as hell, too.
<2023-02-10T06:18:22.000Z> Jiub: yeah it's way goofy
<2023-02-10T06:23:33.000Z> SultanOfSloth: I find a bit more appeal in their 70s garage stuff vs their 2nd wave BM stuff somehow.
<2023-02-14T03:36:50.000Z> SultanOfSloth: btw thank you for mentioning/introducing me to mylene farmer. Yes I like Depeche Mode
<2023-02-14T03:37:43.000Z> Jiub: hell yeah dude
<2023-03-16T01:40:26.000Z> SultanOfSloth: So wtf are you listening to lately. And why are you making me curious abt who tf CobraJFS is. I already knew about poooooser guy
<2023-03-16T04:29:53.000Z> Jiub: Lately it's been mostly some of the more under-recognized brutal death metal stuff like Mortal Decay, Afterbirth, Heinous Killings, and Repudilation. Mortal Decay especially is pretty cool. They were at their best right when I was first getting into metal, but they were obviously too underground for me at the time so I didn't hear them until late last year. Black metal-wise it's been a lot of the Circle of 444 Reich bands like Grizzly Fetish, Shadows of Black Candlelight, and Scorn. King Cobra's a real wacky guy, he started huffing duster on livestreams a week ago which probably won't turn out well.
<2023-03-16T09:12:22.000Z> SultanOfSloth: I think of those I’ve only heard Afterbirth, will have to check the others out. I heard about the duster shit, wacky sounds right. It’s funny I think I first heard of Afterbirth from a movie, had two stoner metalhead stereotype characters were mega fans and I think band may have done a cameo. Had some scene w a jukebox that played nothing but Afterbirth. Pissed I can’t remember the movie, was 80s or early 90s.
<2023-03-16T09:26:56.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Assuming it’s same Afterbirth I’m thinking of, apparently there are/were a few, but none as active as the one from NY.
<2023-03-16T14:47:33.000Z> Jiub: Yeah, it's the New York one. One demo and a rehearsal from the '90s, then they came back in the '10s with a couple of weirdo albums that are like Vektor doing slam death.
<2023-03-26T00:57:17.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Thanks for the context. Dude one day I’d love to hear your thoughts on the christian extreme music shit. I mention this bc Mortification was such a huge gateway band for me (got their cassettes in 94 when I was 10) but I’m no evangelical. Like you could buy decent death metal and/or punk albums from christian bookstores was wild.
<2023-03-26T00:58:37.000Z> SultanOfSloth: When it comes to christian extreme metal not being able to distinguish lyrics is a plus.
<2023-03-26T01:01:06.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Also if you remember that movie let me know title it’s been driving me nuts.
<2023-03-26T01:21:11.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Extol was another good one too. I’ll quit bugging you now. I’m drunk forgive me.
<2023-03-26T04:09:48.000Z> Jiub: Uh... I liked the first three Trouble albums and Warlord if that counts
<2023-03-26T04:10:04.000Z> Jiub: I actually didn't know about Afterbirth being in a movie, that's pretty goofy
<2023-03-27T01:50:58.000Z> SultanOfSloth: Don’t think I’ve heard of those two. I wish I could remember that fucking movie, I feel I have to prove to myself it wasn’t a fever dream. Was first place I heard of it them. No luck w Google so far.
