<2022-02-14T18:29:04.000Z> DeadKulaks: Hey Pensive! You have a minute? I need a neutral opinion from a fellow midwest guy about a job opportunity
<2022-02-14T18:29:33.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Sure, what's up bud?
<2022-02-14T18:32:55.000Z> DeadKulaks: So I live in the Chicagoland area last weekend I went out to Iowa for a job interview. They have me an offer and are willing to help with my relocation and first month's rent. It would be equal to what I'm making now, but Iowa's cheaper to live in and significantly whiter. The work isn't directly up my alley but I can adjust easily enough. I really don't have anything holding me to Illinois aside from a lease I'm certain I could get out of. Think I should take it?
<2022-02-14T18:41:49.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Purely based on quality of life, I'd say yes - cost of living is much better and depending on other considerations like it you have family back in Chicago, you're still only a few hours away by car - the money will go much further and if it's a position with a future, the housing market is much better in Iowa than Chicagoland, I'll not pry into details, but my gut if you have the chance to build some wealth and equity in a place would be yes because it'll make it that much easier to start or put your family forward
<2022-02-14T18:45:42.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Plus the intangibles like not as many headaches from diversity in the work place are really worth it lol, I looked for more than a year in this area to find a good place I'd like to start a family and got a place and I'm positive about the future for the first time in s long time, but it's hard to put into words
<2022-02-14T18:47:54.000Z> DeadKulaks: True, I'm making money here, but cost of a decent living sucks it dry. All may family is downstate (there is no work down there) so nothing sentimental is even in the area. I'm a welder by trade, which means you look at the average raise every year, but the money is still there if you put in the time. I'm definitely leaning towards yes, I just have had a ton of bad experiences in the area (surprising I know!!) that I was worried clouding my judgement away from some effective potential in the area. And yeah, my entire time there I saw one black going to the local college. The entire crew at that job are cornfed country boys.
<2022-02-14T18:53:03.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Hell yeah dude
<2022-02-14T18:53:54.000Z> DeadKulaks: Thanks Cowboy. I got one more guy I'm gonna ask but it's most likely gonna be a yes.
<2022-02-14T18:55:10.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Right on brother - hope that it works out for the best for you man
<2022-02-14T18:56:04.000Z> DeadKulaks: Me as well. I'm having a hard time seeing a real downside, but I like to ask around
<2022-02-14T18:56:11.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Plus, you seen those Iowa girls? Blonde and stacked, woof
<2022-02-14T18:56:27.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Lol
<2022-02-14T18:56:33.000Z> DeadKulaks: You know, not really, now I'm gonna look!!
<2022-02-14T18:57:06.000Z> PensiveCowboy: Hell yeah brother
