<2023-01-17T19:57:26.000Z> JubTheNub: I believe there is a great opportunity which is currently being underappreciated here on Poa.st . Because Poa.st does not presently conform to the will of government and corporate interests, it has potential to act as a common meeting ground for those who are scientifically inclined. There could be a subsection solely dedicated to science threads for debating without the heavy hand of moderators or ego.It could be used as a place of innovation and discourse on certain fields of research that is frankly not possible in contemporary platforms.
<2023-01-17T21:33:50.000Z> pasture@pl.gamers.exposed: I bet we could call it sciencenigge.rs and invite Neil DeGrasse Tyson on.
<2023-01-17T21:37:25.000Z> JubTheNub: NDT's breed of "scientist" is more of an ethicist. And it is my experience that people who style themselves as a "bioethicist" or "advocate for ethics/morals in science" don't contribute shit to the advancement of the sciences.
<2023-01-17T21:41:11.000Z> JubTheNub: There's a few things to do ethically in science: try not to do anything stupid like blow up the planet, or engineer a virus/bacteria that wipes out all human life in an era where we have no self sufficient off world colonies to continue the species (take notes China). You know, basically exercise some common sense.
