<2022-04-20T13:09:23.000Z> JSDorn: Hey man, wanted to let you know we are prepping a replacement imprint for The Peoples Samizdat. We'd like to make the contest winner the first post on it. I know you are busy but do you have a timetable on your pick for winner? It's gonna be called Guerilla Literature
<2022-04-20T17:33:03.000Z> Godcast: That works, and I'm almost done reading through the entries. Make an introductory post/account, I'll plug it, then the next post I'll have the winners for you
<2022-04-20T17:39:49.000Z> JSDorn: Super. The poast account is already up, as is the substack. Just waiting on custom art. I have an introductory post already halfway drafted
<2022-04-20T17:40:09.000Z> JSDorn: It's guerillaliterature@poa.st
<2022-04-20T17:41:42.000Z> Godcast: Excellent
<2022-04-21T19:14:10.000Z> JSDorn: We will send out our introductory post on Monday
<2022-04-21T19:20:34.000Z> Godcast: K
<2022-04-27T12:40:09.000Z> JSDorn: Think we might have the winner announced this week?
<2022-04-27T12:40:16.000Z> Godcast: Ok
<2022-04-27T12:40:49.000Z> Godcast: Responded to the wrong thing. Yes, I'll have the winners to you by Friday
<2022-04-27T14:34:00.000Z> JSDorn: Aweome
<2022-04-27T14:34:03.000Z> JSDorn: Thanks
<2022-04-27T14:38:27.000Z> Godcast: I need to go through and edit the works into a coherent whole. I'll try to start working on that Sunday
<2022-04-27T20:16:40.000Z> JSDorn: Well we wanted to kind of publish them in a piecemeal fashion, letting each have it's chance in the spotlight so to speak. I have not read them them all yet, but I understand that there are some lower effort ones as well?
<2022-04-27T20:23:13.000Z> JSDorn: And Umlaut wants us to publish his work on Friday. I'd like to do mine early next week. I'm not against you doing a special omnibus, but we want to help generate more interest in the common setting
<2022-04-27T21:10:48.000Z> Godcast: That works. I do still need to do some editing to several of the stores, but umlaut's should be ok to publish
<2022-04-27T23:35:22.000Z> JSDorn: Ok good
<2022-04-28T16:52:05.000Z> Godcast: Here are the winners
<2022-04-28T16:52:09.000Z> Godcast: Main prize winners: Space Ranger by JimPrincess of Agartha by UmlautsPathfinder by TurncoatSecondary prize winners:Apocalypse by CorydorasLet it be Thy Ship by BeltwayDeep Roots by DeValeraStar Prophet by Laima Sedula
<2022-04-28T16:52:48.000Z> Godcast: Gimme a bit and I'll do a write-up. Also, that list has abbreviated titles and authors
<2022-04-28T17:00:03.000Z> JSDorn: Nice!!!
<2022-04-28T17:42:21.000Z> Godcast: This sci-fi story writing contest was a grander success than I could have imagined when I started it. I knew a lot of our guys enjoyed writing, but I didn't know just how good they were at it! For those of you not up to speed, this contest started with a hellthread about Warhammer 40,000 and how we need to stop giving time and attention to people who hate us. There's a real hunger for the kind of over-the-top grimdark science fantasy stories, but without the baggage of Games Workshop's awful writers and their even more awful politics. But who could write those stories for us? Would we be stuck with sci-fi from fifty, sixty, or in come cases nearly ninety years ago? With the help of Guerilla Literature, I put out this challenge: write a short story according to a prompt. And the response I got was overwhelming. Nearly two dozen stories when I was hoping against hope to get half that. It's been extremely heartening for the positive response from writers, and I hope the response from readers is just as positive. We can create our own art. We don't have to rely on people who hate us and everything we stand for to entertain us. We can provide for our own needs and build a universe with stories worth reading. While you enjoy the stories entered into this contest, think about the kind of stories you'd like to read. Which aspects of these tales do you want to see more of? Do you have a brand new idea? Why not write it yourself, or collaborate with a friend to bring your story to life? As long as there's interest, and as long as there's a need for stories meant for us, I'll keep sponsoring these contests, and I'll keep curating the best science fiction stories our guys have to offer.-Myles Poland
<2022-04-28T18:15:32.000Z> JSDorn: Beautiful
<2022-04-28T18:16:36.000Z> Godcast: I try
<2022-04-29T17:11:42.000Z> JSDorn: So HH wanted me to ask you to make sure you scrub the PDFs before you post them.
<2022-04-29T17:11:56.000Z> JSDorn: pdfyeah.com/remove-pdf-metadata/
<2022-04-29T17:12:03.000Z> JSDorn: Apparently this is a thing
<2022-04-29T17:12:59.000Z> Godcast: I need to edit the compilation anyway, but definitely noted
<2022-04-29T17:20:07.000Z> JSDorn: We want to public princess of Agatha no later than tomorrow. We can publish the other winners as well for you, in their original state if you want, or just PoA.
<2022-04-29T18:28:44.000Z> Godcast: you can publish the version you have
<2022-04-29T18:29:05.000Z> Godcast: of Umlaut's story, but others need more work
<2022-04-29T18:35:51.000Z> JSDorn: Alright
<2022-05-03T23:36:57.000Z> Godcast: Do you have the prompt for my sci-fi writing contest?
<2022-05-04T02:08:15.000Z> JSDorn: The original one? I'm not sure. Let me check with the others.
<2022-05-04T02:37:28.000Z> Godcast: Thanks
<2022-05-04T02:37:51.000Z> Godcast: Did I send you the list of winners, and if so, did you get in touch with them?
<2022-05-04T02:53:06.000Z> JSDorn: I did not. I thought you were going to do that
<2022-05-04T02:53:25.000Z> JSDorn: And it doesn't seem like we have the prompt anymore
<2022-05-04T03:33:53.000Z> Godcast: I don't have anyone's contact information
<2022-05-04T03:37:30.000Z> JSDorn: Oooh. Okay hold on
<2022-05-04T03:50:30.000Z> JSDorn: We will try to find them, barring that I have the TPS email subscriber list and will send out an announcement that way
<2022-05-04T04:14:00.000Z> Godcast: That works. We'll get it sorted
<2022-05-04T11:24:55.000Z> JSDorn: Are the other winners good to publish?
<2022-05-04T13:40:08.000Z> Godcast: I'm going to roll those out with the collection
<2022-05-04T14:31:12.000Z> JSDorn: I see
<2022-05-05T03:32:04.000Z> JSDorn: How are you doing the prizes?
<2022-05-05T03:48:34.000Z> Godcast: Top 3 get a hundred dollarydoos each, next four get fiddy. They'll need to contact me with their cashapp or make other arrangements with me
<2022-05-05T03:53:08.000Z> JSDorn: Got it. So we don't have their emails, but I'm going to ask them to verify by sending us their story again. None have been posted except umlaut so far.
<2022-05-05T04:11:52.000Z> Godcast: Perfect. When I wrap up the second story, I'll send you a draft of the compilation, would you mind checking my editing?
<2022-05-05T10:38:41.000Z> JSDorn: I wouldn't mind at all
<2022-05-05T10:38:46.000Z> JSDorn: Would be happy to
<2022-05-05T11:26:53.000Z> JSDorn: Even though we are not really coordinating much right now, I'd encourage you to read Umlauts new story today and see if you can't keep it in mind as you do your compendium. Would like for our efforts to be complimentary and not cross purposes
<2022-05-05T11:59:17.000Z> Godcast: I think they're going to be fundamentally different, having talked to him about it
<2022-05-05T14:36:41.000Z> JSDorn: That's unfortunate
<2022-05-05T14:46:21.000Z> Godcast: I don't think so. The more options our guys have to check out of mainstream entertainment the better. It seems like you guys are doing mythopoetic not-gundam, while I'm doing not-40k
<2022-05-05T16:25:01.000Z> JSDorn: True
<2022-05-05T16:25:08.000Z> JSDorn: May a thousand flowers blood
<2022-05-05T16:25:10.000Z> JSDorn: Bloom
<2022-05-05T16:25:21.000Z> JSDorn: But flowers blooding would be cool too
<2022-05-05T16:25:33.000Z> JSDorn: I can verify that turncoats email is turn_king@protonmail.com
<2022-05-05T17:01:15.000Z> Godcast: Ok, see how many of them you can confirm and get back to me
<2022-05-05T17:41:05.000Z> JSDorn: Will do
<2022-05-05T19:44:34.000Z> JSDorn: While I'm happy to help with the compendium any way I can, we do ask that there is no mention in it to TPS. The guys want it to sink into the aether.
<2022-05-05T20:05:33.000Z> Godcast: No prob
<2022-05-24T01:54:47.000Z> JSDorn: Got another one. Let it be thy Ship by RiverRaccoon@protonmail.com
<2022-05-24T02:20:42.000Z> Godcast: excellent
<2022-06-15T17:35:38.000Z> JSDorn: Another straggler. Got Corydoras' email (he wrote Apocalypse)corydorable@protonmail.com
<2022-06-15T17:42:06.000Z> Godcast: awesome
<2022-06-20T05:06:05.000Z> JSDorn: Hey, were you able to get in touch with turn_king@protonmail.com?
<2022-06-20T11:58:18.000Z> Godcast: No, I still have to do that
<2022-06-20T12:57:33.000Z> JSDorn: Okay, he asked us by email what else he needed to do
<2022-06-20T13:11:25.000Z> Godcast: I just need his cashapp name
<2022-06-21T02:25:31.000Z> JSDorn: I'll ask
<2022-06-21T10:08:49.000Z> JSDorn: I think he does but I don't like being the middle man. Can you email him directly?
<2022-06-21T13:44:43.000Z> Godcast: I'll reach out to him
<2022-06-21T14:39:28.000Z> JSDorn: Thanks
<2022-07-04T23:12:09.000Z> Godcast: Alright, I'm about 95% of the way there. Just need to make some terminology edits to the last story, do a blowthrough read for errors, then add the prompt. I'll link you the file in a minute
<2022-07-04T23:12:55.000Z> Godcast: filetransfer.io/data-package/61PehTSj#link
<2022-07-04T23:14:45.000Z> JSDorn: Awesome I'll take a read
<2022-07-04T23:14:58.000Z> Godcast: THanks
<2022-07-07T18:04:04.000Z> JSDorn: This is extremely ambitious
<2022-07-07T18:05:10.000Z> JSDorn: It feels very professional. Editing is very good. I like the order of the stories, the quote at the front is good. Are you "girth"? Or are you just part of the operation?
<2022-07-07T18:11:16.000Z> Godcast: yeah, that's my Nom de Guerre for this project
<2022-07-07T18:11:58.000Z> Godcast: The story order was a big thing that I stumbled into as I was reading the entiries
<2022-07-07T18:16:07.000Z> JSDorn: I bet it was. First story choice is perfect and sets the overall tone too. Good pseudonym.
<2022-07-07T18:16:15.000Z> JSDorn: What's your plan now in terms of publishing?
<2022-07-07T18:18:37.000Z> Godcast: First thing is to wrap on the final edit, after that, I need to look into getting an ISBN number and some cover art. The plan is to build a presence online, probably on Gab, and sell the book to normies. I"m going to see about doing audiobooks for some of them as well
<2022-07-07T18:27:50.000Z> JSDorn: Great idea. This needs to be its own thing. You should use Poast and TRS to spread the word though. Our own guys need to be present in this.
<2022-07-07T18:28:05.000Z> JSDorn: Any plans to develop a rulebook for table top play or something like that?
<2022-07-07T18:40:54.000Z> Godcast: 100%, this whole thing started to get our guys to stop giving time, money, and attention to Games Workshop. No, there are plenty of wargames out there that are good. In my daydreaming, if this blows up, I could buy out One Page Rules or officially license the system, but most of our guys only interact with 40k lore, not the game
<2022-07-07T18:55:48.000Z> JSDorn: I'll definitely promote it, and probably buy one of the hardcopies.
<2022-07-07T18:56:10.000Z> JSDorn: Would love to see fanart next, though that's something that would have to happen organically
<2022-07-07T19:54:46.000Z> Godcast: Exactly
<2022-07-07T19:55:22.000Z> Godcast: I don't think this will gain traction until i get a few novels published
<2022-07-07T20:36:18.000Z> JSDorn: Are you going to write them? Or are you looking for others to do that?
<2022-07-07T20:38:03.000Z> Godcast: Others, of course. I have very little writing talent
<2022-07-08T00:16:24.000Z> JSDorn: Well I've never managed anything that long but maybe I'll take a crack when you solicit it
<2022-07-08T00:27:31.000Z> Godcast: I appreciate it. I can't do a royalty deal like AH, so I'll be buying stories outright. It's probably a better deal anyway, the audiobook I did for them barely earned back it's advance for me.
<2022-07-08T00:28:38.000Z> JSDorn: That would be fine with me
<2022-07-08T00:29:22.000Z> JSDorn: But I've never done a book, so I'm not promising I can, merely that I'll give it very strong consideration. I think what you're doing is very important
<2022-07-08T00:49:56.000Z> Godcast: I try. Let's see if we can actually get this thing off the ground
<2022-07-08T00:50:06.000Z> JSDorn: Baby steos
<2022-07-10T05:16:28.000Z> Godcast: Alrighty, made the last changes to everything, got it formatted the way I like, I found and added the prompt, and added a table of contents. Give this a once-over for me, please: filetransfer.io/data-package/R93go6D4#link
<2022-07-10T11:46:27.000Z> JSDorn: Looks good
<2022-07-10T16:44:24.000Z> Godcast: Excellent, thanks
