<2023-02-10T16:57:55.000Z> HellFrasier: Hey, Any tips for on raising chickens beginners? I fear of fucking up the lives of living things so being alone on a project like this kind of makes me not want to do it. That plus the lack of knowledge
<2023-02-10T17:00:54.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: Chickens are the easiest pet ever. Super low maintenance. I don't want you to dox yourself by me asking, but be aware of any possible predator animals or birds in your area. Every region has different issues.Other than that be sure to have a safe coop for them at night. Plenty online (but can be pricey.) If you have simple woodworking skills you can make a simple coop from 2x4s and plywood
<2023-02-10T17:01:13.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: Chickens can be let out during the day to graze, and they put themselves up at night
<2023-02-10T17:02:41.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: If you have a dog style outdoor cage (like a large dog fenced pen) they can stay in that and avoid predators. Pen can be moved for grazing. (Chickens will absolutely destroy the ground they graze on and turn it to 100% dead dirt
<2023-02-10T17:03:19.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: Any idea how many chickens you want?
<2023-02-11T00:17:47.000Z> HellFrasier: Not many, its a small backyard and tbh I am not zoned for it. City would have a fit if they found out. I am currently setting up a small garden (well I want to keep it small but the woman already has plans to expand it bigger than I thought)
<2023-02-11T00:18:17.000Z> HellFrasier: I was hoping to use corn meal to help not kill the grass as quickly
<2023-02-11T01:23:23.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: If you got 3 small hens, no rooster, and a fully enclosed pen I doubt anyone would notice
<2023-02-11T01:25:43.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: Something like this. They can't escape, wont die off, wont kill a garden unless the pen is literally over it, and eggs are easy to collect. If the hens aren't a large breed maybe even 4-5 https://chudbuds.lol/media/111b8c57-52ed-4eb7-80f7-2ad6848a1573/image.png
<2023-02-11T01:26:52.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: that way you get a decent lay every morning. Having only 2 hens may only produce 1 egg a morning if they're being lazy about laying
<2023-02-11T01:27:14.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: 2-3 hens I mean. sorry
<2023-02-11T01:27:39.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: 4-5 could atleast produce a breakfast for 2 people in all likelihood
<2023-02-11T01:28:33.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: Birds can be fickle. We have 9 Geese and sometimes only get 1 egg a morning. Sometimes up to 5. They're dumb birds lol
<2023-02-11T01:32:11.000Z> HellFrasier: Good lord Geese lay some big ass eggs. They just let you take their eggs without getting aggressive?
<2023-02-11T01:35:56.000Z> ShotgunShuffle@chudbuds.lol: They hiss and kinda fluff up and act tough but they're push overs. We just pick them up and move them to collect eggs. All bark
