<2023-01-08T01:33:18.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Would you consider yourself to be a Catholic?
<2023-01-08T02:54:40.000Z> Godcast: No, I'm an Evangelical. I have a lot of respect for the Catholic church and want nothing but the best for my Catholic brothers
<2023-01-08T02:55:04.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: That's not super common for protestants.
<2023-01-08T02:55:24.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Usually they hate the Catholic Church.
<2023-01-08T02:56:15.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Have you ever noticed how the Catholic Church actually built Western Civilization?
<2023-01-08T02:56:51.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Realizing that made me want to convert.
<2023-01-08T03:41:14.000Z> Godcast: I have, but I have enormous disagreements with core Catholic doctrine
<2023-01-08T04:36:37.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: You know how the Bible says that you’ll know a prophet by his fruits, and that a bad tree can only bear bad fruit and a good tree can only bear good fruit?
<2023-01-08T04:37:13.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: If the Catholic Church bore Western Civilization, that’s a pretty good fruit, right?
<2023-01-08T04:37:25.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: What fruit did protestants bear?
<2023-01-08T04:46:58.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+7%3A15-20&version=DRA
<2023-01-08T04:47:07.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Just a little food for thought.
<2023-01-08T05:28:04.000Z> Godcast: I strongly disagree with your assessment of Protestantism
<2023-01-08T05:36:01.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: No seriously, think about it: What fruit did protestants bear?
<2023-01-08T05:51:05.000Z> Godcast: We spread the gospel to the new world and the most active evangelists are evangelical. I'm not really interested in getting into a denomination fight. You can trust me when I say I've engaged with Catholic doctrine in good faith and found it wanting.
<2023-01-08T05:52:48.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: But the Spanish, who were Catholic, were in the New World before there were any protestants there, although there may have been non-Catholic fisherman by the coast but I don’t think they really interacted with the natives very much.
<2023-01-08T05:53:53.000Z> Godcast: Latin Isn't the only part of the new world. Like I said, I'm happy you like being Catholic. I can't in good faith be one myself.
<2023-01-08T05:54:40.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Actually, I think those fisherman came out after the Spanish arrived because they were present I think around 1600 whereas the Spanish were definitely there earlier. Of course the Vikings also visited North America but they were pagan.
<2023-01-08T05:55:41.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Actually, to be honest I hate being a Catholic. It’s the most morally demanding faith of all, but I do it because if I don’t then I’ll go to hell.
<2023-01-08T05:56:14.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: I kind of screwed myself over. I could’ve stayed blissfully ignorant but I just had to go searching.
<2023-01-08T06:02:41.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Now that I think about it, I think those fishermen may have hanging around New England in the 1500s because it was before the American colonies were established. The Spanish actively preached Catholicism and they did the first mass on the North American continent. Protestants don’t seem to have made a major attempt to influence the natives of the New World.
<2023-01-08T06:03:07.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: Maybe they did preach to the natives, IDK. The Spanish certainly did.
<2023-01-08T06:03:47.000Z> Lady_Euromutt@nicecrew.digital: But anyway, I wasn’t trying to start an argument. I was trying to make you think. That’s what I do, I tend to think a lot and I try to make others think too.
<2023-01-08T15:59:13.000Z> Godcast: I've given the question plenty of thought, you can trust me on that
