<2022-09-03T21:11:50.000Z> GabeLakmann: Are there any books about the Austro-Hungarian empire, World War 1 and the lead up to World War 2 that you'd recommend over others?
<2022-09-03T21:28:32.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: All I've read on Austria-Hungary specifically so far is John Mason's seminar book The Dissolution of Austria-Hungary 1867-1918. I've been looking at a few others to buy, let me check my wishlist on abrilis
<2022-09-03T21:32:30.000Z> GabeLakmann: Thanks. I'm not in a huge rush, I just want to buy some good books on the topic before it is too late. I have the post WW2 stuff covered fairly well.
<2022-09-03T21:37:40.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: I've already read Dennis Showalters book on Tannenberg, James Lyon's book on the 1914 Serbian campaign, which has plenty of good stuff about the start of the war between Austria and Serbia. I've got The Gardeners of Salonika by Alan Palmer on the wishlist, a book by Glenn Torrey about the Romanian Front. Fall of the Double Eagle by John Schindler is about Austria's fuckup in Galicia at the start of the war, that's probably what I'm gonna buy next https://i.poastcdn.org/0eb6a37b61f69f2563f3bfdeda1dee8877148c7ee4fde1d10ec3b2eb13cce3ee.jpg

<2022-09-03T21:39:46.000Z> GabeLakmann: Are there any books which cover most of it in a single book? I'd prefer to get just one or two haha
<2022-09-03T21:40:33.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: Another on my watchlist is one specifically about the 1915 German/Austrian invasion of Serbia. I think it's called Invasion: Conquest of Serbia by Richard DiNardo
<2022-09-03T21:41:07.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: Yeah I'm pretty sure there's more general stuff but I've been looking into specific campaigns of the war mostly
<2022-09-03T21:42:18.000Z> GabeLakmann: You'll be an expert on it soon since you have so many books about specific aspects. If you could only recommend one or two would you be able to recommend a couple that cover most of it or is there too much nuance?
<2022-09-03T21:44:18.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: Maybe check out Alexander Watson's Ring of Steel?
<2022-09-03T21:46:12.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: He's done a few about the Austrian side of the war, Ring of Steel has got stuff about Germany and Austria-Hungary on a zoomed out perspective
<2022-09-03T21:48:48.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: He's got one about the siege of Przemysl that I might check out
<2022-09-03T22:13:27.000Z> GabeLakmann: Yeah, I guess that's kinda what I'm after. A general perspective. I'm looking for something that explains what the Austro Hungarian empire (Germany really) was like before, during, and after ww2. I'd also like to get some books about the history of Europe pertaining to what it was like from Roman times until Napoleon era. I feel like I understand why Germany wanted to fight in ww1 and ww2 fairly well but I want a book to show others if they ask or if I want to learn more. The rest is just wanting to learn more about my ancestors I reckon
<2022-09-03T22:13:48.000Z> GabeLakmann: I'm going to a cook out so I will chat with you later if you are on. Take care
<2022-09-03T22:37:01.000Z> Ottovonshitpost: I'll be around at some point
