<2022-10-31T19:46:18.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: I saw on the TL your mention that you're a mortuary assistant. I'm currently writing a book (a fantasy book, the first of what I hope to be two-parter, a duology) in which one of the characters is a mortuary assistant. It's fantasy, so they don't have all the knick knacks of the modern age. I'm not sure whether you might have knowledge on how things "used to be done." If you do (even general things), would it be alright if I lightly asked for your knowledge of how body preparation used to be done?
<2022-10-31T19:48:40.000Z> Eschatology: By "used to be done" do you mean like, how it was before modern times with all of the machines and what have you?
<2022-10-31T19:51:32.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: Exactly. I understand you might have no clue, but if you do, I'd love to learn anything you've got. I'm reading / researching on my own, too--but from articles. Not from anyone that might be closer to the industry. I realize it's a big question, too.
<2022-10-31T19:53:31.000Z> Eschatology: I'm assuming you're not just interested in the legal process, you're more so interested by the process of and preparation of someone for their interment?
<2022-10-31T19:54:14.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: Right, exactly. Or maybe I can run a source or two by you (light articles) and you may tell me whether they're full of shit lol
<2022-10-31T19:54:50.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: I'd appreciate any insight you might give. Thank you
<2022-10-31T19:55:46.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: And I realize writing a book in these times is prettyyyy optimistic, but it keeps me sane
<2022-10-31T19:56:05.000Z> Eschatology: How old is the process you're looking at exactly? Like, what age are you writing about? Say, ancient? Medieval European times?
<2022-10-31T20:01:28.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: There are multiple separated societies (an Age of Discovery feel, discovering lands exist), and they range from Medieval European tech and processes to 1700s (depending on the society)This character would be in a more late Renaissance tech society (gun powder is soon to come)
<2022-10-31T20:04:17.000Z> Eschatology: Oh, I can actually solve that for you with ease: If it's Medieval-related, a lot of that practice involved the removal of organs and a fairly general sanitation procedure that involved the usage of antimicrobial agents, e.g. alcohol whilst protecting the body from the elements. Graves were typically dug six feet deep, as an additional detail, to deter grave-robbing.
<2022-10-31T20:04:42.000Z> Eschatology: So think general evisceration, general sanitation. In a way it's kind of like how the Egyptians did it.
<2022-10-31T20:08:48.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: Perfect. I wasn't sure whether I was reading crazy "Blacks wuz tha real Egyptians" "history" sometimes, as I read through some things
<2022-10-31T20:09:28.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: I want it to be for some of these societies that they practiced evisceration, for purposes of creatures introduced
<2022-10-31T20:10:32.000Z> Eschatology: No, the Egyptians were actually exceedingly skilled at the practice of burial. A lot of good books and documentaries on the matter. But yeah you're on the right track when it comes to evisceration for the sake of both sanitation and organ study.
<2022-10-31T20:14:25.000Z> Ash_Kvetchum@nicecrew.digital: I've got a bit of a Frankenstein inspiration to my world, so this is good news. (Ironically, I hate Frankenstein--the book. Loved Dracula, though.)I'm gonna pop back to work for now though. I just saw that on the TL in passing and wanted to throw my desparate inquiries out there before I forgot lmaoThank you, Eschatology
<2022-10-31T20:15:17.000Z> Eschatology: Absolutely, if you have any further questions always hit me up, my door's open!
