<2021-07-12T20:52:00.000Z> Bronsai: Hey man, I just recently got into Lupin III and saw the Castle of Cagliostro, about to show it to my brother tonight. Do you have any Lupin shows or films you'd recommend, assuming you're a fan?
<2021-07-12T20:52:46.000Z> LouisConde: Uh, it depends what you like. Lupin has a shifting tone depending on the series/movie
<2021-07-12T20:53:43.000Z> LouisConde: Castle of Cagliostro is great, but it downplays a lot of Lupin's personality to a more noble protagonist
<2021-07-12T20:53:54.000Z> Bronsai: Okay, do you have any favorites then? I was looking through for options and it seems like there's over a hundred things to pick from.
<2021-07-12T20:54:24.000Z> LouisConde: Yeah it's a massive catalog. Do you prefer subs over dubs?
<2021-07-12T20:55:08.000Z> Bronsai: Dubs are disgusting the majority of the time, subs I'm fine with
<2021-07-12T20:56:16.000Z> LouisConde: I actually like the definitive cast with Tony Oliver, but I feel you. The other dub casts are pretty bad to mediocre. I would not recommend Pink Jacket Lupin to start with
<2021-07-12T20:57:09.000Z> LouisConde: Lupin the Third Part 3 is pretty goofy and breaks the fourth wall a lot, and the animation was real hit and miss depending on whether or not it got subcontracted out.
<2021-07-12T20:58:11.000Z> LouisConde: If you're starting out, Lupin the Third: The First is a good intro
<2021-07-12T20:59:00.000Z> Bronsai: Nice, I really have only seen Cagliostro and a few episodes of the Lupin show from the early 70's
<2021-07-12T20:59:28.000Z> LouisConde: Red Jacket Lupin is the classic TV show
<2021-07-12T21:00:42.000Z> LouisConde: The stories can vary pretty significantly. One episode can just be a robbery, while the next episode will have the Loch Ness Monster or Vampires
<2021-07-12T21:02:05.000Z> Bronsai: That's not a problem for me, but if I'm showing something to my brother he leans more toward stuff that's grounded. How's the tone on 'The First' you recommended?
<2021-07-12T21:02:39.000Z> LouisConde: Uh...well it's pretty normal but the end kind of has Ancient Alien Astronaut artifacts in it
<2021-07-12T21:03:01.000Z> LouisConde: If that's the case then I have to think about the more straightforward movies
<2021-07-12T21:05:35.000Z> LouisConde: Farewell to Nostradamus is more realistic with no real supernatural elements
<2021-07-12T21:06:34.000Z> LouisConde: Dead or Alive is another one, but honestly I'd only rate them as a B
<2021-07-12T21:07:30.000Z> Bronsai: What's in the A category, or S tier for you
<2021-07-12T21:12:19.000Z> LouisConde: Honestly a lot of the television specials are nothing to write home about, Lupin III: The first is probably really good in terms of plot, Blood Seal of the Mermaid is another good one but it has supernatural plot elements. A special like Twilight Gemini or Island of Assassins is more grounded, but the pacing is a bit slow
<2022-01-28T12:38:09.000Z> Bronsai: Hey, just saw your banner pic. Glad you liked it.
<2022-01-28T12:42:34.000Z> LouisConde: lol it's great, I have no skills at image editing so I love it
